I'm a complete newb on these rifles. I have a guy offering me one of these as trade.

7mm mauser and looks to be in extremely good condition. Guy says he shot it 1 time, and that it's all original and never refinished.

Anything I need to know about them other than the 1 vs 2 piece firing pins?

Make sure you research for the correct ammo.
I strictly reload for mine when I shoot it.

Awesome rifles clean it real good make sure you def get a 2piece pin setup it also need to be a specific one. It has a slot in it.

If you go looking for a bayonet it is a different one than most use due to the flashhider diameter.

Check the firing pin spring.
It should be a couple of coils longer than the pin. They can slam fire. Great guns though. I have a Luxembourg and I built an Egyptian from a stripped receiver

GREAT rifles and usually VERY accurate...almost as good as the swedes.

Important info below...

TMG: FN49 Kaboom or OOB prevention inspection

Beautiful - and the Venezuelan’s were the best of ‘em IMO.

Beautiful rifle.  I had picked up a sporterized Vennie back in San Antonio back in the late 80s.  It wore a Fajaen stock and bayonet lug removed.  B Square used to make a scope mount to replace the rear sight IIRC.  Mine wore a Leupold M8 4x scope for hunting.  During sight in procedures, I would turn the gas plug to "Grenade" to shut off the gas and manually pull bolt as not to lose my brass (I reloaded for it)  Serial of mine was "1964"

Nicest FN49 I have seen right there, you did well.

Finding cases to reload will not be easy at this time so be patient and they will come to you

I used to convert LC Match 3006 to 8MM Mauser

May I suggest you anneal with each shooting/loading.
Increases brass life a bunch and easier than converting new brass

I have a great Ven FN49 as well. I use 70s surplus FN 7mm maser ammo. It was sold in 100rnd boxes and you can find it on GB still but the price gets higher. Luckily I have a few thousand for mine already stored away. The ammo was made for the rifle.

I have a Venezuelan and an Egyptian one and I like both of them though I don’t really shoot them. I feel that it was a great rifle that just came around at the wrong time.
