Saw on a FB group that V1 is doing a run of 100 14.5 barrels in 1/2x28
Personally think they could have easily done more but theyre prob testing the waters. I'm excited, but theyre 1x9 twist and not the 14inches. At least they have the american thread pitch

Hmm, been looking at getting a barrel for my AUG, might be a good option as I have a FCD 6315XE sitting around for when I get a new barrel.

that is always the worry. Hopefully they'll underpromise and overdeliver this time around.

I think other people have mentioned some of these questions but not in the same place...

What about the twist rate?

What about the thread pitch?

Are they going to be sold without something already pinned and welded to them or with something already pinned and welded to them? Because I would not want to buy one with something already pinned and welded on it I want to choose what I want to put on there.

Are they going to be Chrome lined or nitrated?

How are they going to be gassed? Gasport diameter compatible with a suppressor or not etc?

And yes I'll have to buy one or two.

FYI the original Austrian 14 inch barrels aren't actually 14 inches. They are actually 13.8.

Also they are 1/7 twist and have a heavy barrel profile as they were made on the same machines as the 24 inch lmg barrels.

Why couldn't they have done the 13.8" length instead...

whatever length they end up selling, it will have to be 16" with a flash hider p/w on.

With V1 Tactical the first challenge will be them actually DELIVERING the barrels, but then yeah, 14.5 makes it easier for most of us who will need them permanently extended - though anyone who SBR's or runs them in a machinegun won't.

14.5 makes it easier to pin and weld the 16 gives more choices for muzzle devices and also probably makes it much easier for the system to run reliably as far as the gas port and dwell time that kind of thing.

In fact I think something like a 15 and 1/2 in with a pin and welded A2 would be of interest to myself personally.

[#14]
One other nice thing about the 14.5 specific length might include the fact that some objects like certain ACOGs for example are calibrated specifically for that bbl length due to the M4.

I get it, but 13.7" ARs are pretty common cause they are just within range of the p/w length for a lot of muzzle devices.  Also, it seems to be a lot easier to cut down a 16" to 14.5 than to 13.8"; with the latter length, gas issues pop up and need a custom regulator.  The handful of people i've read that chopped to 14.5 have had little issues.  Just seems like kinda half measure.  Hope these do good enough and they consider going the 13.8" route later.

I think it's notable that Steyr Austria hasn't really shown the 13.8" barrel in many years, and that the Thales F90 upgraded AUG uses a 14.5" barrel.

I'm happy it's a 14.5 and not a 13.8". Easier to pin and weld, likely a more reliable gas system, know ballistics. And plenty short.

Alabama has been testing US made 13.8’s since before covid. Last I heard they’re not reliable on anything but military 5.56.

13.7 is stupid for most cases. You need a super long muzzle device to bring it up to 16" legal length. These were only created for ARs to use specific long suppressor mounts (like Keymo) and stay right near 16". I get why people would do it when they are married to a certain suppressor mount, but to otherwise cut a barrel down then add a super long muzzle device to get it to 16" again is just

14.5 gives you an inch more rifling and pressure behind the projectile, plus allows for a much wider range of pin and weld muzzle devices.

“A lot” is an exaggeration
Especially suppressor compatible
14.5” is the right call

The quantities for each color are different. I’m guessing mcantu is referring to white which currently has 1 left and KitBuilder black which currently has 32 left. They all seem to be the same ‘batches’ to me.

I guessed I missed it.
What is the history behind the comments about V1 and
the advance purchases? I assume there was a previous issue?
I got on the 20” barrel pre-buy and had no issues.

Thanks in advance….

Take people's money up front, miss promised ship dates by 6+ months, hold the money for more than a year, charge 15%(20%?) restock fee to cancel and refund for a product they still don't have...

ETA: Example shit-show

When people had issues in the past with V1 Tactical, I thought it was for pre-order allocations, not in-stock items.

I have ordered some in-stock stuff from them before and never had any issues. Wonder what will happen with these?

So much for the allegations on V1 Tactical.

Quoting for posterity. If the tracking number shows it’s moving then I might be hopeful but we’ve all seen vendors generate shipping labels way before handing the box to the shipping company. I’m not saying they’re NOT shipping, just noting that generating a label doesn’t mean they ARE yet.

Yeah mine isn't moving. UPS just shows it had the label generated 5:13 P.M. on 06/14/2023.
The email yesterday said to expect it Monday, but that's unlikely.

My guess is they generated the labels and are packing them up, and then will drop them off/have them picked up by UPS in a big batch.

With most other companies I’d agree. V1’s history makes me skeptical. I sure do hope you’re correct and everyone gets their proper barrels ahead of schedule!!!

So short of sacrificing a 24 inch barrel the closest recreation to original might just be cutting down a USR barrel?  Guessing the gas port would be the wrong size though.  Maybe perfect for suppressed use?
