So like many other posters, I want a suppressed lever gun.  Grew up on a .22 Ithaca lever gun.  So with that said I don’t know about waiting on the 1894 CST, a old JM Marlin 1894 is a pretty penny and I hate to chop it up. So that leaves me with the “Remlin” Marlin 1894.  I have found the 1894C for about 600 shipped.

Seems like recent production has gotten better reviews.

Any thoughts on the new 1894’s and has anyone suppressed a new one?

There are new AAC/Marlin suppressor ready versions out any day now.

I have a marlin 1894 44mag. its 20". id like it cut to 16" and threaded, but my gunsmith quoted me $300 to do it. I can probably get a 16" puma 44mag for very close to that price, which is what im considering.

We have bought, sold, and kept several new production Marlin 1894’s. They were all fine, except one that had burs and metal shavings throughout  the internal parts. Once it was cleaned up, it was fine.

They are handy as heck, we use them a lot. A suppressed version would be a great coyote/wood chuck truck gun

The new 1894C has just started shipping but the jury is still out on whether quality is up to par.

Well I took the plunge.  Waited in KYgun co to restock.   Got it for 600, shipped.  GunBroker prices are still higher by 100 with shipping added in.

I will post some updates once it comes in.

Edit - went with .357.  Although the .44 mag at academy for 499 was highly tempting.

The only caliber I don't have is .357. I have an old trapping partner ( well into his 80's) who has "put my name" on his.....after he passes it is supposed to go to me. Hopefully his sons honor his wishes. It's a beautiful JM stamped with Skinner sights. He has killed a pretty good pile of deer and coyotes with it.

I hope you get a good one and am looking forward to an update.  Someone on MO bought one and had mostly favorable things to say about it.  You can find the post if you google "new Marlin 1894C, first impressions".

The current 44mag 1894 have 38inch twist barrels - many people say that is too slow to stabilize heavy subsonic bullets.
Mine seems shoots 270gr cast subsonic no problem, but fear of baffle strike caused me to buy a Rossi 92 just to thread it instead of threading my marlin.

Actually yes.  My smith let me know yesterday that he was finished up.  I hope to have it tomorrow or Tuesday.  I have pictures but uploading is a pain.

Not sure what I will do on rails and optics if anything.

Looking forward to photos.  I still need to finish my 44 SBR project.  Everything else is done just have to cut & thread the barrel.

I have since added a short rail and scope. I’ll get those up in the next few days.

Is that a shortened magazine or a threaded extension?

I bought an 1894 CST and mounted a Gemtech One.  In a nutshell, I love it.

The fit and finished are perfect.  They got it right.

Buy with confidence and enjoy it.

I had the barrel shortened to 16.1 and in conjunction with that he had to shorten the magazine tube.  I got a heckuva deal on the rifle and I  paid 150 for the extra work.

@Knoxp9090, Who did the work if I may ask?  For $150 I might be talked into shortening my 1984.

Thanks,

A friend in Oak Ridge.  I will ask him if he is open to doing more.  He did mine and then his.  He typically only does SOT work, much bigger stuff.  The guy in the services forum does a tone of threading of lever guns and he was only 175ish for 1894.

It is my favorite field gun, hands down.

Here is its current configuration.  Old school Burris fixed 4x from the 80’s, Burris z low aluminum rings, and a rail from ebay.

Please update with how it shoots.  I have been playing with loads on my cst the last few days and so far it is not even pattering not less grouping.  I still have a few things to try tomorrow (using the subs in my original threaded Marlin and using factory supers in the cst.  After that, slug the barrel maybe and explore different bullets.

My bench is at 100 yards, I know that is a bit far, but drop is not an excuse for a >9moa pattern.

I am posting on the cst thread,

Whats your load data look like? I've had great luck reloading 38spl for my cst with both 125 and 158gr fmj pills under titegroup, both at the min load data (can't remember the numbers from top of my head). I did have to load them a bit long to eliminate some feeding issues I had. I have not shot it at 100 yards+ yet but at 25 shooting off hand I get 2 inch groups easy.
