I have a 12.5” SBR w/ Noveske barrel. Really like it, both in performance and size/weight.  I’m looking to build another AR, and was thinking of a 14.5” w/ pinned flash hider, but have read a lot of posts from folks with a 13.7” who rave about the size/weight/performance.

Would the SBR paperwork and wait be worth a 13.7”?

Definitely not, $200 to reduce an inch? I don't think it is at least. But the tax stamp isn't for the upper, it's for the lower. So get an SBR lower and a couple uppers

I love mine. ...You could always just do a pistol lower with an SBA3 brace to test the waters before filing paperwork.

If you are thinking of pinning it, there are several flash hiders made for a 13.7 barrel to pin.  The BE Meyers come to mind.  http://bemeyers.com/product/249f-flash-hider/

If I was cutting a 16” barrel, I’d take another few FPS and pin a 14.x vs a 13.7”

13.7" looks pretty sweet with a 13" rail and silencer.

I don’t think the tax stamp is worth it for anything longer than 11.5” if you plan to suppress it. My first sbr upper was 14.5” and was/is awesome....until you hang a can on it. For my money anything longer than 10.5” (if talking 5.56) isn’t worth lugging around suppressed.

To a certain extent I agree but you’re within $150 total price from SBR to P/W so some may just opt to SBR for the ability to swap muzzle devices, rails, gas blocks, etc

Worth it? Absolutely, go for it!

I used to think that way until I got my Delta P Brevis II Ultra.  At 3.7" long and 5.8 Oz.  You don't notice the length or weight.
Pictured below is a 12.5 MID gas.  Mid gas on a 12.5 may sound to be too short for sufficient dwell time but this configuration has a Baby Govnah installed and ported to only function suppressed.  Suppressor mitigates any issues with dwell time.  This configuration is currently mounted on a full auto lower and runs 100%.  This setup is slighty under 16"

I also have a Noveske 12.5 to pair with my Noveske 13.7" - its a great set up and absolutely worth the stamp.

Unless you're doing your own gunsmithing, a $200 stamp feels like a no brainer over a pin/weld job.  The flexibility to change muzzle devices, change gas blocks, change rails, etc. is super valuable in my mind.

only your second AR SBR?  sure go for it, you will always find another use for it...

if you were asking to stamp a fifth AR for a 13.7" upper, I would say no...

Everyone focuses on comparing the tax stamp cost and wait to the reduction in length, but I prefer to look at stamping a lower as allowing you to use whatever length actually works for you - rather than just making things short for the sake of making them short.

13.7 in the middle (it has a pinned/welded 249f). 11.5 on the left, 14.5 on the right.

If you want it get it it’s not like you’re going to care about $200 ten years from now and it’s not you’re stuck with that upper. You can change it to whatever want down the line. I’ve never understood why people treat it like it’s a permanent deal when in reality it’s easily changed.

Especially with eForm 1's getting turned around in 2 weeks. I have a 14.5 P&W that I wish I'd just Form 1'd.
