A buddy bought a pistol that I happened to have a brand new holster for, one I had never taken out of the plastic, much less used, so I brought it over to him. He handed me this "in trade"

I don't thin it's been fired but for proofing.

It's a Pietta, of course,

I happen to have powder and cap, but the mold I have drops at .439, too small. So off to find ball somewhere, and save up for that lee two cavity in .454! Nifty day. I haven't shot black powder in many years...

You’re hooked now. Now get a steel framed Army and Navy. 1851’s and 1860’s.

If you don't have any luck, I am pretty sure I have some .454 ball I can send you for just shipping costs.  Shoot me an email if you need them and I will check.

I have that gun on the mantle of my fireplace.

Notorious for wearing out really fast, have fun.  When its shot to hell use it to make birds head grip for replica 73.
You could always just use it for wax or plastic bullets.

Hornady makes swaged lead balls ( item #6070 for .454 diameter, box of 100) for muzzleloading.

That's what I was told, will use a Lee Dipper for 1.5 CC which according to a chart will equal about 23 grains of the GoEx BP I have on hand. That should work for now.
@wildearp,Thank you for the offer on the balls, will let you know.

These guns are a great time at the range!

23 grains is still really too hot for that brasser.

I'm still new to the cap and ball game but most opinions are 9-12 grains will be the sweet spot for accuracy.

It's a .44 will you even get 300 fps with 9 grains of BP?  23 seems like a light load to me, but then I shoot a steel 1860 with about 30-35 grains.
