How quiet can I expect to get a suppressed lever gun?  I assume caliber and case size have a lot to do with it but legitimately how quiet can you go and what's the quietest, heaviest bullet one can throw down range.i know I'm not going to get a subsonic 45-70 down to subsonic .22 levels but I have visions in my head of a suppressed 45-70 shooting 500 grain bullets and just destroying some steel targets without annoying the neighbors.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome.  Experience is appreciated.

If you load your own ammo you can make it extremely quiet.  Use light bullets, fast powders, and the smallest possible case volume(spl instead of mag, etc.).  My 44mag sounds like a silenced 22 pistol.  My 45-70 is louder (big case and 510gr billets) but still very quiet.  It will be difficult to find 357/44/45-70 factory ammo that is subsonic in a rifle length barrel, loading your own will likely be required if you want subsonic.

I know the .44 mag "Silent Destroyer" can be damn quiet with subs.   240 grain bullets.  It's a bolt gun, but the premise is the same.

My 357 is pretty darn quiet even with 142gr 357 magnum rounds. 158gr 38spl is hearing safe.

130 grain 38spl sounds like a pellet rifle.

Subsonic in any caliber a normal person would be willing to carry will be extremely quiet if you install a large, high quality suppressor.
