I haven’t bought a new rifle in a long time.
Hunting rifle and shotgun are covered.
I have AR15 DI & piston, SCAR
I have calibers: .308, 5.56/.223, .300 BLK
I don’t really shoot long range when shooting for fun 100-300 yds

Looking for suggestions for something different in a rifle or different caliber.
XCR?
M1 Carbine?
B&T?
6.8 SPC?
SIG?
ACR?
M1A/mk14?

Sadly this is true

What about a commie caliber AR?

I am having a blast with the 9x39 KAK upper. Ammo is kind of expensive but it's holding about 2 or 3 inches at 100 with Wolf or Tula. It took a bit of tinkering to get it running but it's been a fun project

Bren 2, Galil Ace, or even a plain-Jane AK in 7.62x39

It's a fun caliber that isn't too costly and all three options are different enough from what you have.

Maybe a 9mm AR.  I built a Colt LE6991 clone and let me tell you...that little sbr is a blast to shoot. 9mm ammo is also cheap.

Steyr AUG if you want to go for the "iconic" firearm

or

IWI X95 if you want a more modern bullpup

I prefer the AUG, but they're both awesome bullpups and you can't go wrong with either one.

I’m not a bull pup fan.. not a true collector.. I like to use my guns and I’ve recently added 2x iconic guns to the family that are good conversation pieces:
A galil SAR because I didn’t have an Ak style carbine..
And a AUG A1.. price was too good and I couldn’t pass on it.

Both share the same AR ammo so I didn’t have to buy them.

Sub gun? My MP5 is my favorite gun despite having the least real-world utility in 2020. Roller locks are an absolute joy.

In some parallel universe there's a 6.5G G36C clone. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I think I am going to stay with rifle/carbine

Looking into something 6.8 at this time

You need an AK to round out that stable. Will still be less expensive than a quality AR and will be light years in cost savings, from an ammunition standpoint, with similar ballistics to the 6.8 with an edge to the latter. Unless you roll your own...ammunition alone will pay for the platform in short order.

Educate me simply about the dark side.
I start researching AK’s and get lost in polish, vepr, parts kits, etc.
What do I look for in a good AK

ARX-100.  It'd be a good time to buy before they start going up due to scarcity.

Swiss SIG 550, PE90, 551, 553, or Steyr AUG would be my first inclination in 5.56. The IWI Galil ACE series are also intriguing. HK SP5, B&T APC9 pro, B&T APC9K pro, B&T TP9-N, or B&T GHM9 are great options in 9mm.

I have a PS 90 and love it, would never sell it, tons of fun to shoot but I’d vote for a PCC also.

The biggest drawback for the PS90 is the price of ammunition. Feeding a PCC would be a third the cost for ammunition.

How about a sub gun? So much fun to shoot.

SP5 if you have funds

So far all the suggestions look the same to me ,slow down and smell the coffee. Look at a Marlin 30/30 or 45/70 ,now that's different and a lot of fun.

10/22. Everybody should have one, and dirt cheap to shoot. You can leave it stock or mod it to your heart's (and wallet) desire.

M1 Carbine is far and away the most fun rifle I own. Plus, it has history, good looks, and ammo that is more or less the same $/round as .223. Hard to beat.

Outside of that, the Sig MCX and some of the similar just aren’t different enough to really get me interested. However, the Sig 553 is the hotness, if you are willing to spend the coin. The B&T APC 223 interests me, but I’d like to see it on the street a bit more before I’d spend that level of coin. The M1A is a classic, and I’m occasionally tempted by a Scout Squad, or even better a Fulton Armory build in 18”. Also, give a good look at the FAL if you are willing to go 308. It has awesome ergos, even compared to an AR.

And you can never go wrong with a USGI rifle. Krags, M1903/A3/A4, M1917, M1 garands, M1 carbine, M1A/14 clone

I had a massive collection,  multiple platforms and calibers. Then one day I just didn't want to train across the spectrum anymore or worry about all these strange calibers. Down to mostly ARs now. I did keep 1 AK so maybe get yourself your 1 quality AK.
