I just purchased a transferable sten. I've got months to wait until I can take custody of it. I want to start stocking ammo and magazines.

Are there any magazines to stay away from?  Any I should specifically seek out?

Thanks.

This,

how is the maker for your sten?

I have not had great luck with the 50 round mags. You can get the Indian Railway 20rd mags and cut the brass rods out. Or just buy 32rd mags.

I'd buy a Sterling kit and make a Stenling out of it. Then use Sterling mags, which are awesome.

I got my Taylor Mfg Sten last week. Found a few mags that worked and a few that didn’t. Works great on auto. Semi auto seems to alternate between 1-2 round bursts.

Mine should be approved in 3-4 weeks. I got a threaded barrel off of gunbroker for it so I can suppress it. Anyone do a 3-lug barrel for the Sten or should I just get the 3-lug adapter for the threads?

It's actually coming with a 3 lug barrel.  Which will work with my SilencerCo Omega 9k.

It's coming with a loader, so that will save my fingers.  Its coming with a few magazines-hopefully they all work.  I've gotten videos of it running from the owner-so it runs.

I'll start collecting magazines and test them when the time comes.

Thanks for all the replies fellas.

Last I heard ATF cracked down on this specific change.  Has that changed?

It was once very common. Then they changed their view.

No they are worthless!   When loaded past a few rounds they swell.

Everything Tapco sucks.

They are not Sten mags. At first they were listed as such then Tapco removed Sten listing and now its just MPA.

If sellers are using STEN in the listing its not authorized by Tapco.

I have one, it's clearly made to fit the Sten.

And Tapco makes some decent products. Their AK products are, after all, the standard for 922R compliance.

No, its made for the MPA and kind of fits the Sten. Made for and fits two different things.

Tapco first tried to market them as Sten and had to pull that detail after too many customers complained and returned them.

When loaded past a few rounds the body gets PREGNANT and causes problems.

Cheaper polymer and not re-enforced properly.

If they actually worked well for the Sten, Tapco would have never changed their description.

I think they are still allowed, just not able to alter the cocking slot in the tube. The Sterling has a smaller cocking slot than the Sten, so they used to weld them up.

Apparently in the last liberal gun-banning orgy in Connecticut, they managed to unban semi-STEN builds.  The problem is mags.  I can chop your mags @ the reinforcement & mail you the bits.  Just shoot me an IM.

A friends DLO sten runs fine with the TAPCO.

We ran 15 of them continuously and the sten just kept on running.

Shameless plug to my sten mag repair video.

Maybe you will find this helpful since the days of $3 sten mags are long behind us.

They are more like $150. They are better. Only you can determine what they are worth to you.

Sten showed up to my dealer finally. Mailed the paperwork off on 5/3/18. I'm hearing MGs are taking around 8 months to process for an individual.  Guess I'm looking around the beginning of 2019.
