So I have an M44 that someone removed the bayonet and upper handgaurd.
They did a good job of filling and matching the handguard band slots and bayo slot.
I'm thinking of making a scout rifle out of it. What does the hive think?

Here's a mock up.

Did I piss you guys off? J/K.
I know about Insta mounts and similar rear sight replacement options.
I was hoping to leave the rear sight and achieve a lower 1/3 cowitness.
Anyone try this or is there some glaring reason why I shouldn't that I'm missing?

Bubbafying a Mosin is not cool. However so far it doesn't look like it's been bubbafied.
It is however a tool and if you can make it fit your needs, who am I to judge.

I have close to 40 Mosins and variants from other countries.
I don't Bubba guns
This one is a post war example and won't ever be collectable and is already sporterized.
I see no harm in making it a really useful brush gun.
My question wasnt should it be done, but rather can it be done?

I'd do a small red dot on it. Probably going to be difficult finding a scope with

that much eye relief.

The scope in the mock up is a vortex scout scope, it works at that relief distance.
What I'm trying to determine is the best way to mount it at that position.
Can the barrel be drilled and tapped or would something like an ultimak setup be better?

Sorry didn't mean to say you were! I'm saying looks like you are on the right path especially with the scout rifle setup.

It has already been sporterized. Make it a scout rifle, then post it up with a pic of all your Mosins.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound snarky. I just know how I feel when I see bubba's handi-work.
