I heard today someone claim that the chalk rounds had a spike in them to help them break.

The chalk rounds I have don't have a spike, and the ones we fired back when I was in the Corps didn't have a spike.

I could possibly see a spike going in that round cut in the zinc pusher, but I have never seen or heard of a spike in the chalk rounds?

Anyone else hear or know about a spike in the chalk rounds?

There's no spike.

The zinc part will punch right through 1/4” ply no problem.
