Dead Air teased a dedicated 5.56 can on Instagram last week, so what do you think / hope we'll see on it?
My only predictions: >tubeless in the style of Nomad, YHM Turbo, etc. >I'd be shocked and maybe a little hurt and angry if they released a totally new mounting system |

Like how surefire does theirs. |

I suspect it will be basically Sandman K size and construction with 5.56 sized baffle stack and the already existing 5.56 endcap.
They shall call it the Dead Air "Stoner" in honor of Eugene and the .223 cartridge he helped make famous. When they released the Noveske HEAT SBR and Sandman K combo this was a missed opportunity for sure. Even better would be a troll move, fine you all get the 5.56 can you desperately kept asking for but we collab'ed with Noveske again and you have to buy the SBR HEAT combo 2.0 to get it lol. @Mageever is probably kicking back sipping a cold one laughing at how wrong we all are probably |

Dammit! Who started this? EP4T? That you? Now you've done it. No matter what, somebody's gonna say something way cooler that we're releasing and everyone will be disappointed.

View Quote After the Biden Bucks dropped, I went back and forth on waiting for DA's dedicated 5.56 or just getting a Turbo K in the meantime since I didn't really want a spendy can like a CGS or SF or Sandman that my heart wasn't set on. Ended up getting a Turbo K since they're fairly cheap. Hoping the DA 5.56 is out soon, anxious to see how they did. |

I am thinking around June/July time frame. Mike Pappas on Instagram said around end of quarter two start of quarter 3 for its release.
|
|
[#25]
I speculate that it will be a great can but DA will have some weird QC issues periodically due to the mass quantity produced, and there will be a bunch of complaining about it. I further speculate that their customer service will take care of anyone affected, but for some reason all of this will be a surprise to many.
Sarcasm aside, I hope Dead Air is able to produce something interesting and innovative in the 5.56 realm, and that they sell a ton of product. |
|
[#26]
I’m hoping they produce something like the short-lived RMS2 Hopaii, tubeless, with a 6.5 bore for good gas flow on a 5.56 and the ability to use on a Grendel or Creedmoor.

I don't get the appeal of a dedicated 5.56 can.
It's going to be loud, and sure it can be shorter and lighter than full size 30 cal can. But what does it do that a 30 cal K can doesn't? |

View Quote That didn't turn out to really be usable for 6.5. The front cap bore on mine is at .295" and the internal baffles could be smaller but I'm not sure. Knowing that, it could be usable for 6mm max. Even for 6mm I'd only do it with direct thread or with a mount that has been checked for precise alignment. |
|
[#31]
I’m sure you could tune the Nomad baffles into a nice 1.5 x 6” format that would do nicely on 6.5 and below.

I would assume it'll be relatively simple. Either a Sandman or Nomad body, with a 1.375" mount. Okay for full auto, no barrel length restrictions, e-brake compatible.

A 5.56/6.5 can would be appealing. Got to keep it short though, something between the Sandman K and S.

Hoping we hear something on this soon. Running all DA mounts but am looking for a mid size 556 can. Temptation of an RC2 is getting harder to overcome.

Here I just took delivery of Sandman S, & now they're gonna switch things up.

New speculation: Dead Air teased two stylized pictures of lions hunting along with cryptic quotes on their Instagram account last week and again this morning. I'd be willing to bet this is all leading up to revealing their new 5.56 can. Anyone care to hazard a guess at what the quotes and imagery mean?
The first quote was: "When we perceive danger or a threat, we need to act instantaneously, instinct kicks in. Instinct is the master of self-preservation. It is primal." (from Zamm Zamudio's book "Intuition" although they didn't attribute the quote in their original post) The second quote was: "Problem solving is hunting. It is a savage pleasure and we are born with it." (from Thomas Harris, the author of Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, etc.) So, there's a theme obviously about intuition and instinct, the pictures of lions hunting will probably illustrate the branding concept rather than showing something literal like the Dead Air Water Buffalo (lmao) Therefore, my guess is it will be called the Dead Air Intuition 5.56 |

I like the theme they've been using with the horror movie/comic book type of characters/creatures (Mask, Ghost, Sandman, Wolfman, etc.). Hope they continue with that.
