They certainly did well, and seem to be continuing to do so, with the M249S, so an M240S would likely make economic sense.  But I wonder if the anti-gun shenanigans have had any impact on that calculus?

In my thinking, that's a concern with any foreign firearms mfg.

So if a civi M249 is $8000, a civi M240 is going to cost $10000.  There’s no chance of any AWB nonsense, no matter what the swamp’s donor class wants.  FN as a euro company knows that folks that have ten grand to drop on a gun are a special class of customer uniquely in the US, due to bans in the socialist shiholes that make up the rest of the world. For every forum picture you see of some owner of a M249,there’s 20 others who bought one because they can afford nice things, but keep a low profile. That core customer base isn’t swayed by current political flavors of the week. They buy things because they want them and they can.

Meh.  All of this will blow over. If FN has plans to sell a civi M240,they’re going to do it.   Getting the necessary BATFE approvals to sell takes months at a minimum, years at a maximum. If they started the process, they’re not stopping just because CNN hates the NRA more this week than usual.  The business case for doing it would be the deciding factor, not this week’s political debate or sensational press stories.

Not like I can afford it, but would love to see it come to market.

The semi auto FN249's have been very slow sellers.  I doubt they will do a 240.

Upon what are you basing that?  A buddy who was an FN sales rep at the time told me otherwise- that they had already done very well for FN in their first 18 months out.  I don't doubt they slowed down a lot , but financially that might not have mattered at this point.

I just want a 300 BLK 249. I should be able to afford one right around the time FN releases the MK 20 SSR.

For $14K I think I'd just buy another actual machine gun. No reason at all FN couldn't come out with one in the same price range as the 249S is.

That would be incorrect. Production costs on M240 are substantially higher than M249. You are talking about a lot more material and machining on a 240 without getting into exotic materials like the lima model uses.

Well right wrong or mistaken, if I'm looking to drop $14k on a single firearm I'd be looking at another select fire or full auto machine gun. Still plenty to choose from in the over 10 under 20 price range.

I'd never talk anyone out of buying more transferables. Not buying more when they were cheaper is the biggest gun buying mistake I've made.

A semi 240 will sell quite well at the price point being looked at, within the reality that it's a specialty item. It wont be cheap and it will always be a niche item, but for those with the cash there's no substitute for a real 240 that happens to be semi.
