I have a 556xiR that was purchased as a pistol and converted to a SBR. Nothing was done other than putting a stock on it and changing out the FH for a seekins.
When I first got this back in the day I didn't have any issues with it. Now about 4-5K rounds later, I'm guessing, I'm having all kinds of extraction issues. Every mag will have issues ejecting the spent casing. Mags are not the issue either. The fired round will actually spin 180 degrees in the receiver and get lodged in there. I have no clue why this is doing this. Gun was completely cleaned 100% that you can eat off it. Still happens. I was going to try and remove the extractor and check out the spring but it looks like Sig peened in the extractor pin. I plan on calling sig sometime this week but I'm sure they will want me to send it back in or tell me to use brass. I've never used brass ammo in this and it ran fine before. Any ideas?

Take a look at your gas piston valve. It isn't installed correctly on the front of the gas system, it may not be getting enough gas to properly eject the shell casing. I have seen people over rotate the gas system so that it only gets a slight amount of gas instead of the full amount to properly cycle the action.

Nope. Not that. It was locked in place and even does it when in the cleaning notch.
I made sure to test those scenarios. It will be arriving back at sig today. |

Let us know what they say. Hopefully it is just a bad extractor or spring then. Since they discontinued this a while back, I hope they have a surplus of spare parts. I have an XI-Russion and a 556R as well. I love both, but I know someday they will need parts.

Perfect. Both the extractor and ejector show no signs of wear or breakage. It is already on the way back and will be here tomorrow.
Hopefully I don't get the dreaded fired 30 rounds found no issues letter. |

Inspected, polished the chamber, test fired 60 rounds wolf.
That was it. Oh boy. I hope this works ETA. Not 100%. Ran 120 rounds and had 5 of the same failures with GT and Tula. |

I know you mentioned you want to run steel case, but have you tried a few boxes of brass ammo to see if it has the same stoppages?

I don't have any and not sure where to grab a few boxes. Maybe if I place another large online order I will get a few boxes but right now I have about 8k of wolf, Tula, golden tiger.
Our crappy Walmart doesn't have any gun stuff and I don't want to support dicks. |

This carrier was replaced because of peening/wear in the factory carrier channel. Since I've gotten it back 2 years ago it has mostly sat in the safe until recently. I've asked another member if theirs does this and it doesn't. According to other forum posts, if there is a gap between the ejector and bolt, this will cause various ejection patterns and could result in the casing not ejecting at all and just bouncing around in the receiver. Now I wait until monday to call Sig back. |
