Anyone have experience with this? How does it compare to the m82a1? They are both at the same price point.

If I was to get the Serbu, I would ask about upgrading the barrel. The difference between a average blank and a really good blank is 3-500. I know several of the FL BMG companies were using mossberg blanks. I am not sure if thats still the case but it's worth asking during the order process.

I have one. The chamber was tight/rough I don't know and stuff would not eject. Fed xm33, pmc and hornady factory amax loads.   A light coat of wd40 (per Serbu's recommendation) and a 100 rds and it does fine now.

It shoots decent groups for me with xm33 and my flinch.  I didn't have any problem hitting 12" rocks at 500yds with it but have never shot it beyond that or for groups at anything farther than 100.

The serbu semi has a barrel extension, so no shims or headspace tools needed when swapping barrels, unless you don't have a barrel extension on both barrels
You also would need an armorers kit.
Takes me 10 minutes to swap barrels and that's taking my time.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. This is really helpful. I was leaning towards the m82a1 at first, but with the recent price increase of the m82a1 was considering the Serbu. One thing that really drew me towards the Serbu was the much lighter weight -- a full 10 points which is really substantial. The lower recoil is also a plus together with increased accuracy. My concern is the potential sensitivity of the rifle to the ammo type -- I did stock up on quite a bit of Lake City brass and am concerned that there would be an issue in terms of reliability. I am sure all of you who purchased the Serbu went through the same dilemma of whether to get the m82a1 or the Serbu. What eventually drove you towards the latter?

According to Serbu's website, lead time for
a BFG-50A order is running at least 12+ months.

All things considered, I'd say this alone could be enough to warrant a serious look at in stock options for your 50 needs. Way too much uncertainty in our futures to risk a year plus wait, imho

I would call the shop on Monday and ask, that way you get an accurate time-line on them.

That way if you do plan on buying one, you can start to get all the other components that you'll need to complete the rifle.

And ask if he'll sell and transfer a receiver then send it back for parts if you're truly worried about legislation.

I don't see why he wouldn't, I have a receiver from when CA went beyond full retard.

One of these days I'll scrounge up the money to have it finished.

I give you the Serbu napkin ring!
