* I ended up doing a total 180 and bought a Benelli M4. Couldnt pass it up. Going to have to stick with the Browning bottom eject for the skeet . This is now going to turn into a really pricey project*

I have been posting in other shotgun threads, but I figured I would make my own.

Right now, I am thinking about getting a Remington V3 to use for skeet/trap 3-4 times a year and an sbs host. Pro's are the gas system seems great for short barrels and the prices look to be decent (about $750), con's are they are hard to find right now, and so are spare barrels.

I was hoping to get some input on other semi auto shotguns that could fill the multi use role I am looking for, price range of about $750-ish, actually available, and reliable with shorter barrel. I understand the shortage of firearms in general right now, but Remingtons are even worse.

Using it for our work skeet/trap shoots is just another reason for me to get a new gun, at least that is what I tell me wife.

My fall back plan is to sbs my 870, but I really want a semi auto .

jbntex's V3 sbs is what ignited my itch for a semi auto sbs.

Nice.

I should've also mentioned that I was planning on getting a spare barrel for the V3 so that I could swap out to a 28" for skeet/trap. I know short barrels with chokes can do the job, but most ranges have fudd rules and have a minimum barrel length for skeet/trap.

eta: I should look at used m2's. New ones are a little outside of what I was hoping to spend.

Those are way overpriced right now and I can't use it for skeet and trap. The only check box it hits in my needs is it's semi auto.

AK, yo.  Vepr or saiga.

Or honestly, the Tavor TS-12.  They knocked it out of the park.  It holds 16 rounds, simiauto, and its shorter than my 590 SBS and my vepr-12 with the stock folded.  The Tavor is not an SBS and it doesnt need to be.  Its just a really short gun.

The fostec origin is quite a piece of machinery, but its using fat ass drum mags and its pretty pricey.

Dammit I love that. What could I expect to pay for a used one? I see new they are about $1300 and I know spare benelli barrels are pricey.

Thanks. According to gunwatcher, brownells supposedly had some v3's for $600 in stock 4 hours ago. Pissed I missed them.

Just get two guns, you're not really saving much money doing the two barrel setup and I've yet to find a good way to store extra barrels.

I love my Browning. I had it threaded for chokes so it’s still very useful. If I can ever find a 14” barrel for my M3 I’ll be getting a stamp for it as well!

For a benelli in today’s market that seems like a good price.

Too bad factory sbs barrels are $1000

Auto 5 or Model 11 or Savage 720, etc.

IF I ever had the chance to do a similar build - which will never be the case - I'd go with an Auto 5 or a clone of same

Yeah, that's a good deal. I think I paid $1800 for mine pre panic. I might not have shopped around well enough, but I really wanted to get one that was still sealed in the box from the factory.

Benelli m4 is amazing in every way, but parts are spendy. And you won't be putting a field barrel on it. Once in the SBS configuration, that'll be how it lives. Which is not a bad thing by any means, but just know that.

Buy the m4. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it.

You can get a factory long barrel, ship it off to RAS and still save at least $400 over a factory short barrel

That's good to hear. I don't know a ton about them, but I definitely want to sbs it.

What can I expect to pay for another 18.5 barrel? Quick search shows about $650? Then what would the conversion cost from RAS?

Remington 11-48. Looks a bit like the 1100, recoil operated so no gas system to worry about. And if your area is like mine, nice ones can be had for $400. After a stamp and a cut/thread for chokes job you'll be into it for about $800 total.

I paid $125 a couple months ago to do an 870 barrel. I had already cut it, but had him clean up the crown(as much work as cutting it would have been), thread for chokes and reinstall a bead. What I got back looked like a factory barrel.

Barrels going to run $450-$500, the chop and choke thread job maybe $120?  Can’t remember exactly

Oh man I wish that was the case for me. I've got a build thread in the ak forum, but I'm on day 180ish for that eform1.

Was in pending research for 3 months, then went into fbi delayed in mid January. Now the Benelli wouldn't go pending research, but no telling if I'd avoid the background delay.

Still looking for a M11 donor gun for mine. All I'm finding locally are more desirable configurations or simply too nice of guns to chop.
