I'm trying to decide which Ruger Scout Rifle( caliber/options)to get early next year.
This rifle will not be used for hunting of any kind.  I enjoy shooting both .223 and .308.  I'd appreciate hearing any opinions about barrel length, stock type, and certainly accuracy.
Thanks.
Eric

I think 6.5 is a waste in a rifle meant for short to medium range.  I went with the synthetic stock .308.  The weight savings allows that model to get closest to the definition of a scout, .308 allows the use of the magpul 5 rounders, not that 6.5 wouldn't.  It's my favorite rifle (of many) to shoot and the one I choose if I'm going to be carrying it for any length of time.  Accuracy has been perfectly acceptable, the group in the picture was 100 yards off a sandbag.

The synthetic model didn't exist when I bought mine, but this would be my vote nowadays.

Yea, I waited and waited and waited.  Bought a Savage Scout in 7.62x39 and waited some more and they finally came out with it.  I was pleased.

Thanks everyone.
I'm thinking .308 synthetic.
How terribly loud is the muzzle brake.
I'm thinking of putting an A2 style FH on it instead.

Its pretty loud, you get some looks, occasionally set off a car alarm at the range... Also since it has ports on the bottom it blows a ton of dirt back at you in the prone.  I'm going to remove mine and just use a thread protector.

I replaced my stock FH with a brake from YHM; then replaced that with a can from Griffin Armament (the Sportsman). The YHM brake did a great job at cutting down recoil and didn't blow any debris back. PM if you want to make a deal on it.

I have the exact same gun, optic, and it is easily one of my favorite rifles.

Not trying to rain on the RSR parade, but how are these "Scouts" holding up under hard use in the field?  -  or at least in a rifle class where they're subjected to extended "stress testing"?

It's one thing to shoot a box of shells off the bench once in a while, and another to fire several hundreds rounds in a course where you're shootin'-n-scootin'

Saw this old review here about GunSite, that's why I'm asking. Maybe current Ruger Scout models are better now ...
