Is this break thing worth anything at night? Should I change it if I plan on using an IR laser?

You'll definitely get flash distortion using the OEM device.

I use a B.E. Meyers 249F, which is easily the best flash hider available, but I have heard they are very hard to come by nowadays after the patent was sold to JP Enterprises.

Yep, I've seen them for upwards of $600. Every now and then, Charlies Custom will get some in stock.
