I've got a 20" Rossi M92 in 357 with an approved F1. Getting some parts together and then I'm gonna take it to a smith to get chopped and cerakoted.
Anyone have any SBR lever actions? If so, let's make this a picture thread... post em up, so I can get some inspiration. Also looking for a Holosun/RMR pattern optic mount if anyone has any recommendations. |

Sorry, it's long gone and no pics, but back in the 90's when I was an SOT, I chopped a NIB Winchester Wrangler .44 Mag (large loop lever version) down to 10". A pretty handy little package and fairly accurate (I put a nice ivory bead on the front and a Williams peep on the rear). And yes, one could spin it ala The Rifleman, if one so desired. Lots of fun.

Any reason not to just buy a mares legs and just change the stock??
|
|
Not really, was looking for a project gun and happened across the 20" at a good price. I want the barrel threaded and I'm not sure how easy that is to accomplish on a mare's leg with the magazine tube and barrel flush. Plus I like the standard loop over the large mare's leg loop.

Quoted: Any reason not to just buy a mares legs and just change the stock?? View Quote The problem there is availability. Rossi isn't making them now, Henry hasn't added side gates to their's and they are only in brass. I suppose a .22 or .22wmr SBR could be a fun gun and a useful camp/farm gun, especially with a youth stock. I think Chiappa is the only option. |

I have a Mare's lag, but never bothered to SBR it. I also have several 16" lever guns. The problem with SBR lever guns is you loose length in the magazine tube. A 4 shot lever gun is less fun. FWIW I think the 357 Mare's Lag is still a 7 shot (with 38 ammo anyway). At the end of the day, it just seemed easier to get 16" barrels. I did bob a barrel once - but the smith refused to go shorter than 16" (apparently they did not want to deal with the SBR shit). Too much effort for too few inches.

|
I want to SBR one of my Marlins. I don't know how short but they just look good with a 12-14 barrel.

If Henry ever puts out a Big Boy Mares Leg with a side loading gate It would make a great SBR project.

There was a thread here a few years ago about this and there was a guy who had a giant 1894 sbr thread with a million pictures. Maybe google could find it….. here: https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/-/51-491294/
The biggest factor is cost if you pay for the work - depending on the rifle it can be very labor intensive to thread and/or shorten a lever action if you have to move the front sight and/or shorten the magazine tube. |

Not an SBR but I did recently mount a Phoenix Weaponry optic mount.
They make them for a few different optics. This is for the RMR / Holosun, the only difference is the length of the screws they send you when you select which. Attached File Attached File |

It's the standard size Boyd's stock and basically the same size as the factory one. I think it is just the angle of the picture. Barrel is 12" plus the threads. Mag tube is cut to 12" as well, similar to the It's listed as holding 5 rounds of 38/357 but I can fit 6 rounds of 38spl in the tube. |

I notice the Henry Mare's Leg has an octagon barrel. Can those be turned down and threaded for a suppressor?

@brachiosaur
That was the only thing which got me thinking of a barrel replacement versus the SBR conversion. This took it to 3+1 from the prior 4+1. But Marlin had gone under and replacement barrels, IF they could be found, were fetching as much as $500. Even with the stamp, this was a cheaper conversion. ZERO regrets. It rides in a leather scabbard I had made when I’m in bear or moose country, totes easily, points naturally, and is just downright enjoyable to shoot. I’ve taken it to a few MG shoots and it gets as much or more attention than some of the MGs! @alaskanfire You know when it goes off, but it’s by no means my loudest firearm by any stretch. |

I asked because a friend had a ported guide gun and it was obnoxious.
