Ruger m77 in 357 - Page 1

Planning on buying one in a couple of in a weeks and wonder how they fair. Are there any know issues with loading, magazines, accuracy? For example, does it have problems loading 38 spl wad cutters from the magazine to the chamber or something like buffalo bore cast bullets? The great thing about 357/38 are the huge diversity of bullet designs, bullet weights but I'm not sure if the rifle can reliably handle all the different loads. On a related note, I plan on sbr/suppress it, if I cut down the barrel can it stabilize all the different bullet weights? Thank you for the information.

There's a huge 77/357 thread all about suppressing and SBR'ing these guns in the silencer forum. Might be in the archive by now?

I'm torn between a 77/357 and the threaded Marlin lever gun that is coming out this year.

I'm leaning towards the Ruger. If I remember correctly the barrel length is 18.25 so you
can cut it to 16" and thread it but you lose the front sight which is unfortunate.

You can have the front sight set back on the Ruger, and it looks factory done, but it will cost you about $160.

OP, the 77/357 can stabilize up to 300gr bullets.
My go-to sub load is 245gr PCCB handload in 38SPL brass.
SAECO 352 mold. Took a doe with it in '16, dropped in its tracks.

I have both, prefer 9mm can, quieter/lighter. Octane was on it when the doe was taken.

I intend on doing both. I miss my 77/357 but will buy another one as soon as money is available. It'll get paired with a new Marlin as well.

I don't remember the name of the shop, but a couple of the guys have had the front sight moved on their SBRs. My understanding is they chop that section off, bore it out, and thread it. That way it'll just screw on and get timed properly on extra long suppressor threads. Could be wrong though.

Personally I'm leaning toward the Liberty Mystic-X suppressor as it's rated for full house .357 loads, over the Osprey and the like that I'm not sure if they are or not. We talked about it in the big 77/357 thread, but I can't remember the end result.
