I have been wanting to pick up an 8” Charger for the past couple of months, and I haven’t had much success. I have seen one for sale on gunbroker go for $700. Then I saw one at another online for $600.

I finally figured I would just buy a regular 10” barreled model and shop the barrel down. Now even those are hard to find and also overpriced.

Anyone have any leads or know when they will be back in stock? Or why they are getting expensive other than shops capitalizing on demand?

If they are that expensive and getting harder to find, it may be worth it to buy components and put one together.  Have you considered buying a used base model 10/22 and SBRing it with an aftermarket barrel?  Form 1s get approved really fast these days and IMO SBR is the way to go for Chargers.  As a registered SBR, you can pretty much do whatever you want with it.  I have my Takedown Charger SBR in a Magpul Backpacker stock with all Kidd internals.

@fr3d got pics?
I’m thinking about SBRing my takedown in a magpul stock. Would be a cool package but mine lives in my truck. Hate to leave NFA in there

Why buy a factory Charger?

Buy a Brownells BRN-22 TAKEDOWN STRIPPED RECEIVER
https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/rifle-receivers/brn-22-takedown-stripped-receiver-for-ruger-10-22--prod124104.aspx

I've been waiting for the non-takedown version to be available.

The rest of the parts are available everywhere.

hope it helps.

I finally ended up finding one for a solid deal, but man, it’s insane how hard these things are to come by these days.

Sorry about the pictures; I really need to invest in a camera.  Have had that cheapo optic on there for a while and meaning to move it to the Magpul barrel mount, but it has worked well so not gotten around to it or upgrading the optic itself.  Would not hesitate to put a 3-9x40 on it if I wanted to use it as a critter collector and have a Nikon 3-9x40 on my non-SBR takedown.  It's accurate, lightweight, super comfortable and tons of fun.  Really love being able to do anything I want with it (other than take it across state lines without a permission slip) because it's a registered SBR.  The factory Ruger Charger barrels are decent, but obviously too long to keep bulk pack from going supersonic.  Thinking about getting a binary trigger for it to make a monster range toy that's cheap to shoot. It has Magpul QD sling mounts and makes for a wonderful woods walking plinker as it is now.  Everyone who has shot it loves it and once almost had to bribe a friend's 12 year-old to give it back after a long farm shooting session

If price isn't a huge factor (for higher end stuff, I get not wanting to pay that price for a factory 10/22), like mentioned you could just buy a virgin receiver like the BRN-22 Takedown Receiver that is in stock and on sale at Brownell's for their standard - nonrailed version.  $100 for the receiver and source your other parts on the used areas here or Ebay etc. I just ordered a Kidd receiver that set me back ~$180 for a slip-in standard classic receiver. Backorder is currently 2 weeks out according to their website.

Brownells BRN-22 TD Receiver

Kidd Slip-in classic receiver.

Even the OEM plastic stocks that you can fit a stock adapter to are bringing stupid money on eBay. One is up to $135.00 with two days left. Figure another $50.00 average for the adapter of your choice and you are looking at around  $200.00 before you even stick a stock on it.

Hell, a few months back bought two lightly used fixed-stock threaded barrel Chargers for under $200.00 each.

I've even noticed that take-off 10-22 18.50" tapered barrels are way up in price. You could not hardly give them away a few months back.

What’s the consensus on Tacsol receivers?

I wanted to do a short suppressed build with a braced chassis like the Odin or Deep Six.
