Hello,

Sorry if this is a beat to death topic, but with the Archives turned off I figured I'd go ahead and ask. I've always been a CZ guy, love the 527 line and have quite a few of them.

After checking out some RAR rifles though, there are some aspects to them I like. What's the general consensus on these? How's the accuracy typically? Build quality?

Thanks

Accuracy is ok to good, depending on caliber.  Build is tough, but definitely not refined or sexy.  The stock is a little flimsy, but serviceable.  They do seem to be a great platform for trucks, kids, rough brush, deer/pig hunting gun.
Would I take it to Hellistan to do pro work or shoot 1500 yards?   No.  Would I take it to the $100k a year pheasant hunting lease?   No.

But is it a heckuva gun for the price?   Yes.  It plays in the Savage, Thompson and Mossberg market and does so very well.

I have a ruger ranch in 300blk & 5.56.  They are really light and handy.  They take ar15 mags.  They are inexpensive.  I can occasionally get the 5.56 bolt to bind up a little bit when i'm doing a magdump with a 20rnd magazine.  My 5.56 has a cheap low power variable on it and is my truck gun with a couple 20rnd mags velcro-ed to the stock.

The mag release button looks weird because it is half covered up by the stock, but it works.

The 7.62x39 version uses mini-30 mags and has an AK style mag release.

The 450 bushmaster looks like it would be fun as a hushpuppy, but it uses a proprietary 3rnd box mag.

I have one in 5.56, its my favorite rifle. Its lightweight, 100% reliable, more accurate than I can shoot. I would like another in 7.62x39.

Had one in 5.56 and sold it to buy a Remington 783.  It's way more accurate, has a better stock and magazine, and I have shot M855 through it without an issue.

I am looking for one in 5.56, 300 BLK & .308/7.62.  The two features that are driving me to them are the threaded barrel and PMAGs.  Are there any alternatives some one can recommend?  Just interested in the idea of a network bolt-action.

Alternatives, I like my CZ 527 Suppressor Ready. I have two, one in 6.5 Grendel and one in Blackout; I think they stopped chambering in Blackout now unfortunately. Proprietary mags though. The CZ 527 SR are great rifles, but like I said, there are some things about the RAR that are appealing to me.

I was out at three gun shops today with a friend. At the last one we spotted a 527 SR up high on a wall. Asked the guy what caliber it was, he didn't know, had to get a ladder to get it down to check. That rifle has been chambered in four calibers: .223Rem, 6.5 Grendel, .300 Blackout, and 7.62x39. Had it been any of the first three, either my friend or I would have bought it. But it was 7.62x39.

I'd be interested in alternatives too though.

ETA: Here's my 527 SR 6.5G.

I have a RAR in .300 BLK and I use it in friendly competition with my buddies. We shoot golf balls and golf tee's at 120 yards. It is not as accurate as my Mossburg Varmint in 5.56 but it hold's it's own. I can get minute of golf ball with my hand loads and that's plenty of accuracy for me, the tee's are a bit more of a challenge.

Couple of my friends have them and love them, I want one pretty bad after trying theirs.

One is in 5.56 is shooting at or under 1 MOA once he found out it really likes American Eagle 50gr tipped varmint rounds

The other one has one in .350 legend and I'm not familiar with what that round should be doing but seems like he was around 1.5 to 2 MOA with his first few groups, no testing of different rounds there as he just got it recently.

Love both my American Ranch models. The 5.56 that takes AR15 mags and the 7.62x39 model. Both have taken a lot of deer 150 yards and in. Cheap and very accurate.

I upgraded my RAR in x39 to take AR magazines.  It’s a great gun in its price range.

I  bought a Boyd’s stock for mine but so far it’s not usable. The cut out for the front V block isn’t correctly located and I haven’t been able to get through to Boyd’s customer service yet.

You folks with the 5.56 ones.

Any issues with milspec ammo? How heavy have you gone with bullet weight?

I was shooting Privi M193 into 2 5/8th inches at 100yards.

Nothing heavier.
