Anybody got one? Thoughts?

I kinda want one, don't really need it.

Well I want one now, thanks to this thread...

I thought they were discontinued? Seeing a picture of one next to a Ruger American Ranch with the AR mag kinda cured me of wanting one; the mag is just so oversized. You could do a Ranch with a Boyd's stock and these sights.

I have one in .308.  It's little funky looking, and I hate the buttstock spacers.  But, it's a Scout rifle and I love it for that.

I also have a Savage 110FCM in .308 and a Ruger Frontier in .358 Win, which I like the best.

I enjoy my scout in .308, I really do.  I use it hunting (as seen above).  I enjoy hunting carbines, as the terrain isn't forgiving on length when it's slung.  And I might use a shorter mag next time, that 10 round is just kinda awkward.

That being said, for most users these days I think that the NoDak Spud bolt-on iron sights with the Ruger American Ranch 5.56 that takes AR mags would do much the same thing for most people, in a more convenient, lighter, and cheaper overall package.  The Scout, even in a synthetic stock, seems a touch overbuilt for a 5.56.

Local shop has a couple that no one seems to want as soon as they see they are not 308s.

I like mine.  Overbuilt. Made on the 308 size Ruger Hawkeye action and barrel with the 5.56 bore.  Extremely accurate and the dull stainless finish is tasteful. I run a Sig Romeo5 on it and shots at 300m are pretty easy. Being chambered for 5.56 1/8 it allows a wide variety of ammo.  Plastic Ruger mags are available for about $25 each.

Haven't shot it yet, ammo is too expensive.

I have one In left handed, it’s a nice throw in truck bolt action 223 that I’m not afraid to scratch or carry around.  Shoots good.

Magpul should have these available sometime this year. Magpul's AICS mags work with my 308 Scout, maybe these will work with my 556 Scout.

Update.
Found a NOS Leupold fixed power scout scope locally.
Mounted it in some QD Warne rings and went out with it Monday.

What a fun gun.

I second that motion! The old old Gunblast review showed they can shoot well.

Are you using it as a plinker or for legitimate hunting?

Incidentally, the polymer Ruger .223 magazines have run excellently for me.

I'm waiting for one to pop up too, the .308 is one of my favorite rifles.
