Anyone here have any experience running the Rex Silentium MG50 suppressor on their .50?

I've been wondering about it as well, as well as the option to customize cans by adding the brake.
Does this forum get posted in anymore?

This forum has always been pretty slow. I think I've seen at least 3 50 cans on here but none were the Rex.

Because it's ugly, heavy, and has poor DB reduction numbers.

I know .50BMG is not easy to suppress.  But the Rex is shorter, lighter, and from what I can tell... has better sound reduction.

Only disadvantage I see is loss of the QD function.  But let's be realistic, deploying a full sized .50BMG platform is not a speedy process anyway.

I’d be more worried about the recoil management as that’s what allows the gun not to beat itself to death. I thought I had read non Barrett cans voided any warranty but that might be a cya for them.

Barrett uses a brake to mitigate stress to the internal components.

So does the Rex.

I see that it just looks much less substantial but I have no idea the force needed. With the Barrett you have the existing gun brake and the external brake one the can both of which are pretty big. Like I said I’m really interested in how it all works out.

If it all blows up in my face, you'll be the first to know.

However, I also know dudes running suppressors on their Barrett rifles without any type of brake and they run just fine.

I think I'm gonna be just fine.

So I've heard that running suppressors can add recoil. Would a can with a brake add much? I'm toying with adding one to a M99, but don't want to add more recoil.

mike_0120, That's gorgeous!

I've been tempted to try and suppress my BFG-50A.  I know I'd have to drill/tap the gas block for some sort of adjustable gas restriction screw.  I bet Mark Serbu would sell me a spare to modify.  So far, I don't think anyone has done it.

SCARed,
Yes, suppressors increase recoil.  I've shot the M107 w/ and w/o the Barrett suppressor.  No doubt the suppressor shoves you back farther.

Very interested in this can and recoil with the brake?

If you are firing the can on a standard 82a1, remove the accelerator and accelerator rod from the bolt carrier. It  nearly always lessens recoil generated by the suppressor.
If the rifle short strokes, put the accelerator rod and accelerator  back into the carrier.

Best to test it first with those 2 pieces removed from the carrier.

Man that thing is awesome looking...

Their website says the following:

*** When switching from a 50BMG muzzle brake to the MG50 suppressor, shooters may experience slightly heavier recoil. The end user assumes all liability for use of this device. KNOW YOUR ABILITIES! ***

no longer being made.

For .50 cal, the Barrett is okay on the Barrett rifles, which are an oddball at 7/8".  Best is the Keres from CGS.  KG Made and Rex are good enough.

Can You SILENCE A 50 CAL? Is It Effective?

I bought the Barrett Can for my 107. Seems like the best all around suppression and recoil/ blast reduction

There's not much out there to compare it to and Barrett certainly wouldn't endorse anyone else's competing product.

But I talked to a couple guys in the .50BMG game and they spoke very favorably of the Rex.  I'll let ya know.  I'm 160 days in.

@50cal
I’m guessing no, but is the barrel threading the same for the 82a1 and 107a1?
It would be nice to be able to remove the parts below, along with swapping the QD brake to allow use of the QDL suppressor.
Thanks

Had the Barrett QDL out this weekend. Eliminates 100% of the concussive blast. Recoil seems to be about the same (8-12") but people were standing towards the side of the rifle as if it were any other rifle getting fired. Sounds like a 13" SCAR 17 with a short can with a much larger thump when the projectile hits the target or berm.

Overall, the crowd and I were extremely impressed. It's highly functional and I'm a huge fan but, admittedly, takes a little away from the spectacle of a 50. No regrets and I encourage folks buying a 50 can

I've done the Barrett can and it reminded me very much of shooting a muzzleloader sound-wise. That rex can looks awesome and way less unwieldy than the QDL.

I fired a suppressed M107 with a Gemtech can.

Worst recoil of any firearm I've ever fired....and I've fired them all. Wayyyy worse then 20mm.

Ever fired a standard bolt gun in 30-06? That's the worst recoil I've ever shot to date. Haven't shot 50BMG suppressed yet though.

No, the silence is deafening from OP though

I saw this posted here and on some Facebook groups with a promise to post updates ASAP and...*crickets.*

107a1 without suppressor is softer shooting. With the suppressor it recoils quite a bit harder but still completely manageable. The blast and concussion reduction is fantastic with the Barrett can.
