Anyone purchase a SWD M11/9 with a Sten conversion you had reversed? Who did you use?

Craig Wheatley did a brisk business in the conversions back in the day. He should have hundreds of the original mag wells. I wouldn't hesitate to use him.

Side question; why reverse the conversion?

Presuming you already have sten mags, and if you max31 it, magwell doesn't matter.

I could see if you wanted a glock magwell.....

I had them do a magwell stretch on my M11. I would give them a 4 out of 5 rating.

This.

I know Sten mags suck but they are steel and cheap.

I might trade a M11a1 or one of my m10s for a Sten M11..

I shot Craig an email, his response..

Craig Wheatley:Sorry, can't help you with that one.  Although we did many 100s of the sten conversions back in the day when sten mags were $3 and no other mags were available, but now that things are exactly the opposite, switching back is not a crazy idea.  It would however require a good amount of welding on the gun and would not be a 5 min job.

The bad new is that we stopped doing any MAC work many years ago.

Having recently used a m11/9 with factory grip and shockwave zmags I'd greatly prefer this to my sten conversion.

My Mac is at Sam’s as we speak.  The guys on uzitalk say he’s pretty much the only Mac guy but he’s been fixing macs for a while.  The ease of shockwave 50rd mags was the primary reason.  Mine was also prob not a Wheatley conversion and the lage .22 mags sat to low for the mag catch to even come close to engaging.

I have a Mac10 that uses sten mags. I've been thinking of having the grip changed so it will use Zmags.
The only reason that I haven't is the cost.

1. Conversion cost
2. I think I would need a new bolt but not sure.
3. Buy new mags ( I've got around 35 sten mags)
4. Buy lage enhanced grip ( one of the main reasons I want the conversion)

Benefits
30 and 50 round Zmags
More comfy with Lage enhanced grip.

I don't see why someone would sten convert a Mac 10,
do you have Photos?

I have an Uzi converted Mac 10 and it is an amazing sub gun.

double feed magazines that are relatively cheap I don't know what they are now but I remember paying $350 or 400 for 50 shipped

if you were going to convert it again, would go Uzi unless there is an issue with the bolt vs feed.  Uzi mags are double feed right?

Might just take the money spent on conversion and just buy a M16 style upper instead.

I had a Sten M11/9.

Not sure why you’d Sten convert one nowadays with Uzi and Zmags around. But I’m also not sure why’d you’d want to un-covcert one either. Sten mags are reliable, built like shit brick houses, and generally cheap. There are 50rnd Sten mags too and you can easily chop the regular 32 round mags into compact 20 rounders or flush-fit 12 round mags.

Only downside to stens is that they suck to load.

Rather than un-convert a Sten MAC, is take the money and buy a Suomi or M16 conversion upper.

Here's my GreaseGun-mag .45 Uzi conversion at the Hernando shoot in 2013, after Richard Hoffman at BWE tuned it for me. Runs like a top, very controllable! And GG mags are WAY, WAY, WAY cheaper than .45 ACP factory Uzi mags!

I went back and forth on it and decided to keep it with the STEN.

Several reasons.

I have almost 100 STEN mags and 5 Lanchester 50 rd mags.

I changed the springs on some of them and I've never had any reliability issues so far with the new springs in them.

It didn't make sense..

Also, I have a dozen of the Tapco STEN mags MPA whatever and they work golden. I can load them up to 32 rds and they run and run fine on my Sten m11 on a lage kit.

In the end.....

Sten mags need new springs ....

end of story .......

the 10 sten mags I changed has always been reliable and the the Tapco has been ultra reliable.

Just got mine back from the reverse sten conversion.

Runs 100% and my .22lr kit works now too.  My .lage 22lr mags wouldn’t even fit in the bigger sten magwell before.
