Please keep this thread info only! No sales info. Really no need to post unless providing photos, serials, or other relevant info.
Going to edit this as more info comes in. If your gun is not listed below PM me. I will also be adding photographs as I compile them. Please also send me anymore information. Please no speculation. Remington M870 Riot In addition to the special Mark 1 variant, a number of Model 870 shotguns were procured by all branches of the service, especially the United States Navy. Most of these were standard M870 plain barrel riot (typically 18-inch to 20-inch barrels). Most such guns purchased by the government had factory parkerized finishes, but a surprising number had standard commercial blued finishes. Most of these guns were purchased in the early to mid-1970s, several years after the Mark 1 contract was completed. Some of the Model 870 riot guns were fitted with sling swivels, and an extended magazine tube/ bayonet adapter kit that was developed by Remington. Such guns resembled the USMC contract Mark 1 but had shorter barrels and were not fitted with rifle sights. Remington made both parkerized and blued extended magazine/bayonet adapter kits that were also sold to the law enforcement and civilian arms markets. Conversion of existing riot guns was accomplished by simply screwing on the magazine tube extension and clamping on the bayonet adapter, which was secured by three screws. It is reported that the U.S. Air Force as well as the U.S. Navy utilized these conversion kits on some of their M870 riot guns. Model 870 riot guns were popular with U.S. Navy "SEALS" as well as a number of other units. After Vietnam, the weapons were used for various duties, including the protection of American embassies around the world. Some of these shotguns were also fitted with folding stocks and a few had their barrels cut back to as short as 14 inches to make them handier for use in confined spaces such as embassy guard houses and the arms racks of Navy warships (including submarines). Some Model 870 shotguns are still in use today by the U.S. military. Although the weapons only saw limited action in Vietnam, the Remington Mark 1 and M870 riot guns were among the best of the U.S. combat shotguns of the era. Bruce N. Canfield, author of the book Complete Guide to U.S. Military Combat Shotguns. Specific to the Ohio National Guard M870 Riots: -Factory ordered from Remington by the National Guard, including factory folders (NOT commercial converted shotguns, from other branches, or converted to riot spec later) -All blued finish -Strip gun as soon as received and clean/lube, many have a lot of rust internally, no matter what the external condition is. -Some have bead holes drilled in the barrel some do not -1,286 shotguns transferred from Ohio National Guard then to Ohio Department of Corrections who immediately transferred to Sportsman Outdoors, minus any there officers wanted to buy. -M7 or M9 Bayonets correct -Silent sling or M1/M14 canvas sling correct -All cylinder choke (one found with mod, not sure why) Click spoiler for decoding information: Click To View Spoiler Receiver date prefix codes: S-68-73, T-74-77, V-78-83, W-84-89, X-90, A-91-93, B-94-96, C-97-00, D-01-04, AB-05 Reciever Suffix codes: V Full size frame 12 gauge 2 3/4 Only M Full size frame 12 gauge 2 3/4 or 3 Only A Full size frame 12 gauge 2 3/4, 3, or 3 1/2 W Full size frame 16 gauge 2 3/4 Only K Small frame 20 gauge 2 3/4 Only X Full size frame 20 gauge 2 3/4 Only U Small frame 20 gauge 2 3/4 or 3 Only N Full size frame 20 gauge 2 3/4 or 3 Only J Small frame 28 gauge 2 3/4 Only H Small frame .410 bore 2 1/2 or 3 Barrel codes: (First is month second is year) Month B - Jan L - Feb A - Mar C - Apr K - May P - Jun O - Jul W - Aug D - Sep E - Oct R - Nov X - Dec Year M - 1921 N - 1922 P - 1923 R - 1924 S - 1925 T - 1926 U - 1927 W - 1928 X - 1929 Y - 1930 Z - 1931 A - 1932 B - 1933 C - 1934 D - 1935 E - 1936 F - 1937 G - 1938 H - 1939 J - 1940 K - 1941 L - 1942 MM - 1943 NN - 1944 PP - 1945 RR - 1946 SS - 1947TT - 1948 UU - 1949 WW - 1950 XX - 1951 YY - 1952 ZZ - 1953 A - 1954 B - 1955 C - 1956 D - 1957 E - 1958 F - 1959 G - 1960 H - 1961 J - 1962 K - 1963 L - 1964 M - 1965 N - 1966 P - 1967 R - 1968 S - 1969 T - 1970 U - 1971 W - 1972 X - 1973 Y - 1974 Z - 1975 I - 1976 O - 1977 Q - 1978 V - 1979 A - 1980 B - 1981 C - 1982 D - 1983 E - 1984 F - 1985 G - 1986 H - 1987 I - 1988 J - 1989 K - 1990 L - 1991 M - 1992 N - 1993 O - 1994 P - 1995 Q - 1996 R - 1997 S - 1998 T - 1999 (*) U - 2000 (*) V - 2001 (*) W - 2002 X - 2003 Y - 2004 Z - 2005 A - 2006 B - 2007 C - 2008 D - 2009 E - 2010 F - 2011 G - 2012 H - 2013 Wingmaster Ohio National Guard engraved Walnut Furniture Fixed Stock: (1971) S375980V CU (KaiK), Rack # 72 S375984V CU (FIRE310) S375986V CU (Homeka45), Rack #72, Silent Sling S377***V (hockeysew), Rack #49 S377563V (jm0502), M1 Sling, State of Ohio AGD Sticker S377575V CU (mhode) S377585V (mk4dubbin) S377688V (HAWK347) S377698V CU (SageEBR) S3778**V CU (ROMAD-556), Rack #64, M1 Sling S377830V (schrodingerscat), State property yellow tag S377845V CU (APEMANWITHFERALDOG), Rack #5 S377847V CU (Gunbroker Auction) S377858V CU (timccart), Rack #66, Silent Sling S37786*V CU (Eitek1) S377873V CU (Gunbroker Auction) S378478V CU (Ironmaker) S378494V (onealphay2k) S378495V CU (1911LVR) S378517V CU (BLM), Rack #51 S378522V (USMC0352) S378592V CU (rooski52) S379***V (nvgeologist) S379152V CU (harleyrkc) S379154V CU (Bmccray), Rack #38 Silent Sling S379160V CU (Flaregun), Rack #41 S379161V DW (-db-), Rack # 68 S379170V (hosphemer) S379175V (Popov), Rack #69, Silent Sling S379203V CU (VBC) S37972*V CU (stoner63a), Rack #42, Silent sling S379722V (Jozsi), Rack #40, M1 Sling S379724V CU (Bmccray), Rack #51, Silent Sling S379739V CU (Jozsi) S379759V CU (Thetallest), Rack #47 S379766V CU (Hking), Silent Sling S3797**V CU (Onefast93z28) S3797**V CU (cdholmes) S379***V CU (piratetech) S3805**V CU (98hd) S3805**V CU (cdholmes) S3805**V (extractr) S38055*V CU (JIMBEAM), Rack #40 S380551V (NE_Guardsman) S380554V (Lokjell), Rack #39 S380555V CU (davidr001) Rack #59 S381***V CU (Hangernade), Rack #46 S381900V CU (Popov), Rack #56, Silent Sling S381929V CU (SSgtCarroll), Rack #74, State of Ohio AGD Sticker S392***V KU (piratetech) S392***V KU (Grizzly56) S3921**V KU (DownLemur) S392770V KU (charlesb_la) S392772V KU (FIRE310) S393***V (Ad Display) S393***V KU (HappyTrailz), Rack #28 S393***V (rw66) S3935**V KU (KrinkBusta) S393510V (IA) S393517V PU? Finally picked mine up today. SERIAL: S379759V. BARREL CODE: CU
March of 1971. It's really really clean. Like never been shot clean. I however, can't get the mag tube off, the nut is really tight. Not sure how to get it off without damaging the nut. There's cosmoline under the bayonet mount and the barrel is drilled/tapped for a bead. Sharpie rack number 47. Oh yeah, there was at one point a piece of tape with something written on it on the stock. It's long gone but there's a little piece of it and some residue. Not sure if I'll clean it off or not. Updated with info & pics
SN: S379766V Left side barrel markings Attached File Right side barrel markings Attached File Overall condition is good. The florescent lighting brings out every little scratch that you cant even see in person under normal light. It has a little more wear and tear than most of the others that have been posted and I am ok with that. I like a well used gun with character Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Action is buttery smooth, trigger is crisp, overall feels better than any 870 I have touched in the past 15 years. |

Posted in the other thread, copying here for future quick reference. I received a delivery notification email from FEDEX that they delivered my fixed stock 870 to my FFL at around 9:30 this morning. It had been scheduled for a Monday delivery, and my FFL is closed Mondays, so I didn't expect it quite so quickly. Anyway, picked it up around noon. Condition is consistent with the pics on the SOS website, if anything it's a little nicer but not as nice as some posted earlier in this thread. Plenty of small dents and finish wear on the wood. The edges of the barrel, magazine extension, etc are a little beat up. The receiver has a few light scratches, but nothing too serious. The magazine extension nut has some bright tool marks, and the screws on the barrel clamp look a bit boogered, but again nothing too serious. The front sling loop is tweaked a little bit. No unusual markings, just the ONG logo, "18" on the key tag, and a sharpie rack number "28" on the top of the stock forward of the butt pad. No extras in the box, just the shotgun, and case. I'm happy. S393XXXV KU on the chamber. https://i.imgur.com/B5BWw69.jpg https://i.imgur.com/YZjnsLv.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JnEzPeW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/s0grpCQ.jpg View Quote |

I received my two folders this morning. The serial numbers are 30 apart.
One is virtually new; I don't think it ever left the armory (S6373xxx). The other is excellent with some very minor surface rust that will wipe right off with some oil. It has a sling attached (S6373xxx). The other three Remington shotguns in the second picture, I already owned. Attached File Attached File |
