Anyone have any experience with Remington Golden Saber ammo? I've never seen brass jacketed bullets before.

Just fine if you can't find HST, Gold Dot, RangerT
|
|
|
Well, I've never capped a fool with any, but it is usually what is loaded in my edc.
Mainly due to the phenomenon of HST never being in stock when I have money... |

I carry HST every day. BUT... Golden Saber is my buy it cheap (many years ago) and stack it deep ammo. I think I got just under 500 rounds in both .38 SPL and .45 ACP.

From what I could gather on the 9mm version several years back, its relatively velocity dependent so in guns with 3.5-4+ inch barrels its gtg but shorter than that you may run into issues.

![]() Failed To Load Title The Brass Jackets tend to separate from the core... BUT, I wouldn't let that bother me. ( The next gen of bullets addressed that ) Winc. Silver tips ( and others ) did the same thing. I would feel perfectly comfortable with my SD handgun being loaded with Golden Sabers ( Note the catchy name .. think Black Talon, Hydra-Shok, Starfire.. ) |

It seems to be a lot more consistent and cleaner than their bulk pack stuff. I have no experience with it in .40, only .380acp, 9mm and .45acp and I haven't shot any in a couple of years. |

Is it still being loaded during the Remington bankruptcy?

Wish I would have bought a lot more of it a few years ago when I could get it from Target Sports for $15-$16 a box

From the days when all the gun rags touted the RRA DEA rifle as the greatest ever. Those were the days when Magpul made magpuls, Bushmaster was Tier 1, Eotechs and vertical grips were awesome!
|
I use it, 9MM, 45. No complaint, +P. I think it’s a better choice than generic HP ammo but I’m not a ballistic expert. Good expansion in range tests
|

|
I use Golden Saber in my .45
I have 5 or 6 boxes each of .45, 9mm and .380. Have a bunch of 9mm Gold Dot I bought really cheap about 2 years ago. Will probably start carrying the Gold Dot eventually. |
|
I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

The .38 spl +p for short barrels is my preferred carry ammo in a snub. It shoots very accurately out of my Cobra and there isn't a lot of blast so it is easy to put a cylinder into a target relatively quickly. It does well in internet gel tests too

Some of it's on DocGKRs list, good enough for me.

Distant choice below the top tier stuff.
I've had a no-powder squibs with 9mm 147 Golden Sabre. That could have sucked a lot, since I don't normally have something to drive stuck bullets out in my pocket. |

Many years ago several police departments in the North Texas area used to issue Golden Saber for duty use. Don’t know if they still do but they never had issues with performance for the OIS it was used in.
I’ve carried 9mm +P Golden Saber for years. Haven’t needed to use it but it’s performed fine at the range when I’ve tested it. Going to rotate it out for some HST but only because my carry ammo is getting old now and I got a good price on the HST when I was buying. |

I had an older 1911 that would choke on a lot of
HP rounds. Golden saber fed reliably. I’ve seen videos of core/jacket separation. But they make a bonded round that’s supposed to be better. |

Many shootings over the years, no complaints. |

Shoots fine. I’m down to my last 100 rounds. I had half a case that the FBI left at the range on a training day.

I have my Glock 21 loaded with them now. Not my first choice but it’s what I have.

It'll work just fine as long as you put it where it needs to go.

Golden Saber in .45, it runs great in my 1911's and goes where I want 'em to. I'm pretty confident they'll ruin somebody's day if they pose a threat.

While their premium stuff was generally gtg, we can only hope that what you say applies to the rest of the line as well. Most of it was pretty mediocre in my experience, especially their bulk pack stuff. I'd like to see them produce a quality reduced recoil 00; I think I'm down to my last couple of boxes of that stuff. |

GTG. It was my carry ammo for many years. If I have my choice, I’ll carry HST. But I have a lot of Golden Saber in my stash, and if that was all I had to carry I wouldn’t spend any time worrying about it.

I use Golden saber in my HK UMP clone SHTF mags. Packs a punch and the 8 8inch barrel gives it some heft.

Golden sabers are a decent bullet just as long as you don’t have to shoot through barriers, I’ve seen enough tests in person to know they will break apart big time. With that being said I have no problems carrying them when not on the job.

Tulsa PD issued it with their Glock 22C's. I never heard anything negative about its performance.

I know a guy that shot someone through the windshield with a 230gr 45acp Golden Saber. The entire jacket stuck in the glass and the lead core then struck the steering wheel, and continued into the bad guy's shoulder. Bad guy would have been DRT if the bullet had held up. I used to tease him about not double tapping. That glass penetrating failure led to several departments in my area dropping Remington Golden Sabers as a duty round. Most around here run Federal HST or Winchester Ranger.

It was our duty load (.45ACP) at my department for a while and worked every time it needed to.
I still carry it, even with Winchester Ranger SXT +P at my disposal. |

I carried it for a number of years.. it works well
Technology has continued to improve and HST or Gold Dot would be slightly better Ultimately where you hit them is far more important than what you hit them with. |
