Just got in 5000 of these puppies today! Sooooooo happy.  My favorite primers.

I thought I may never see them again with Remington going bankrupt.

I copied this from somewhere but can't put my fingers on the source. I refer to it for cup thickness and comparison:

Small Rifle Standard
CCI 400 -thin .020" cup, not recommended for AR15 use by CCI/Speer. Good for .22 Hornet, .30 Carbine. See Note 1 at the bottom of the page
CCI BR4 - match primer with a thicker .025" cup.
Federal 205 - Mil-Spec cup thickness according to Federal - okay for 5.56mm. .0225" cup thickness.
Federal 205M - same as the 205 but the match version.
Magtech PR-SR - .025" cup thickness (not much feedback yet on this new primer as to AR15 suitability but with the same cup thickness as the Rem 7 1/2 it looks good so far)
Remington 6 ½ - thin .020" cup, intended for older, lower pressure rounds Remington says do not use for the .223 Rem or other similar pressure rounds. Good for .22 Hornet, .30 Carbine.
Remington 7 ½ BR - A match or "bench rest" primer. Lyman & Nosler classify this primer as a Standard. Remington says the compound is the same as the 6 1/2 but with a thicker .025" cup.
RWS 4033
Winchester WSR - some piercing issues noted when changed from silver to brass cup. Cup thickness is a bit thinner at .021". Most say they are good to go for the AR15 despite that, probably because of the hardness of the cup. Some feel they are less resistant to higher pressures.
Wolf/Tula Small Rifle SR #KVB-223 - soft, sensitive copper cup, not recommended for AR15/military rifle use or high pressure rounds.

Small Rifle Magnum

CCI 450 - same thicker .025" cup as the BR4 and #41.
CCI #41 - commercial version of the fully-qualified DOD primer for use in U.S. military ammo. With this primer there is more 'distance' between the tip of the anvil and the bottom of the cup than with other CCI SR primers. .025" thick cup. Same primer mix as CCI 450.
Remington 7 ½ BR - A match or "bench rest" primer. Hornady, Handloads.com, and Chuck Hawks classify this primer as a Magnum, differing from other sources that classify it as a Standard. .025" cup thickness.
Wolf/Tula Small Rifle Magnum SRM - hard, less sensitive brass cup intended for AR15/military rifle and high pressure rounds - #KV?-5,56M.
Wolf/Tula Small Rifle 223 SR223 - #KVB-223M "This is the newest primer available in the Wolf line. It is ever so slightly hotter than the small rifle magnum primer and it comes with a brass colored thick cup. This primer can be used in place of the SRM primer or used when a different powder is used that is hard to ignite."

It would be interesting to hear if the weight stats on your fresh batch matches up well with ones from a few years ago.

That's the primer of my choice in precision loads. 223 and 6.5 Grendel.

Yep both the 7.5's and the 9.5's for me....pretty much for everything I load rifle wise, including the 9.5M's I use for my ELR/hunting 300rum....

I just loaded these Berger 245's for a load workup.....So factory 180 A-frame, hand load Barnes 200 LRX for bears, hand load 230 berger ELR/hunting load and the right is the 245 berger work up...

I found a brick of those 7.5s and tested them along side my normal BR4 load and didn’t have any 100yd group size or POI shift.  I am going to load up the remaining 950 or so and spare some BR4s for a short time

I've always found the 7-1/2's to be very consistent and I did the majority of my precision load workups with them in the past. Over the last 3+ years I've only used Wolf 223M primers, but have had to try to redo all of my previous work.

Did we ever figure out what the LA stood for?

What I was told when I called them was that it's a slightly tweaked priming compound that works better with certain calibers like 22BR/22Dasher and the like.

It didn't sound like it was much different from standard 7 1/2 primers and that the vast majority of people wouldn't notice a difference.

Did someone have these in stock, or was that an old backorder that finally showed up?

I still have a bunch of these stashed for 223 loads. Our USPSA club used to give out primers and they couldn't get winchester but had lots of these. I got as many as I could.

That comes from an old Jim Calhoon chart.

Cup thickness is not the only consideration, cups left work hardened after forming make tougher primers.

The information is so old that I wouldn't give it much attention now as manufacturers adjust processes and materials as time passes

Remington 7 1/2 primers have been marked match, magnum, and simply nothing but small at times.  They are great primers in high pressure loads, besides everything else.

Thanks for tying the information back to a the reference source.

I'm almost certain some of the primers I have are age appropriate. Unfortunately I don't have any 7 1/2 left.

Below are more recent tables I keep as reference with my inventory records. If there are more updated charts you have please share.

Looking forward to seeing a new chart that has Expansion Industries primers on it. Maybe next year?

Well before the shortages, I found 7 1/2s to be harder to find than other primers but finally managed to run across a carton of 5,000. I've done accuracy comparisons with 7 1/2s, 450s, and 400s and can see little or no differences in velocities, accuracy,  and points of impact.

The rem 7 1/2 seem to seat in the pockets more uniformly than cci or win.

Keeping in mind we literally live in Remington Country (1-1/2 hour from Ilion) Remington Primers were always the last ones sold in the Shop, which I never understood or even got a good answer from anyone as to why or why not use them....I've shot bricks of them without the slightest problem or even a noticeable difference between them and any other brand....I do realize some are harder or softer, and there are minor variances, but many of us can't discern a damned bit of difference.

I think the better question is how much did that cost? Some people would go bankrupt buying a case of primers at today's prices!

Same here. In my Area, CCI, Winchester and Federal are the most common (in that order) and when you do find Rem's, rarely do they have 7 1/2s

They were bought online for cheaper than what Brownells/Natchez/Midsouth charge, so it was a good deal!

Nice OP,  I have 5k on hand too. Even had a local guy trade me a brick of my std sm pistol primers for a brick of his Rem 7 1/2's. I thought I came out on top.

He bought a .38 revolver and needed pistol primers. I was glad to help him.
