I seem to recall a couple years ago about some tech discovered in regards to “red” filtered night vision.

Some new tech that was super cheap.  Something like $400-500 NODs.  It was supposed to be a game changer and make NVGs affordable for everyone (but the fear being every other country would be NVG capable).

What ever happened to that?

Not sure about the cheap price. But a small number of red phosphor tubes were produced

Red an article that said the price point would be like 25% of normal NVG because the tech was so cheap.

Sionyx....digital tech....is pushing the price to that level. Can't compete with the real thing. Still not bad from what I have heard.

So cool but pictures don't look like it's a good concept, probably why they didn't make many.

Thanks for finding that!

Interesting and creepy at the same time. I want to look through them now.

I did not realize the Christmas goggles used filters. I was not able to confirm what these filters are. The black one is almost certainly a standard IR filter (block vis light). Not sure on the clear one.

Well I happen to have two different color tubes, an IR filter and it's a full moon tonight. I'm familiar with filters but not like this.

Here's a common 720nm filter. You can go right down the rabbit hole of filter wavelengths and uses but for right now we'll just say the filter makes the image 'different'.

I bridged two colors together with one of them filtered. Holy cow, it works as advertised. Depth perception and contrast are increased. With one filtered and one without it is the best of both worlds. I tried the filter trick with two green tubes and the effect was similar. I think the magic is in the filters and not the different colors. Under a full moon this worked quite well, indoors not so much. Should you rush out and get a different color tube? No. But you should get a cheap filter and see for yourself.

In this mini version you may be able to cross eyes and get a 3D image.
