Kyllian's RLL with 22LR Ciener Kit

Link Posted: 11/16/2020 6:55:04 PM EDT
[#1]
I'd be interested in know how (or if) he's gotten past the disconnector spring force pulling the 22 bolt out of battery. The difference between a sear gun sitting in battery, versus an RLL in battery, with a 22 kit, is that after being tripped, the sear is no longer pulling back on the 22 conversion bolt, while with an auto connector, the disconnector continues to exert a backwards pull on the bolt. The full rifle caliber recoil spring has no problem overpowering the disconnector spring to keep things in battery, but the weaker 22 conversion frame recoil spring is easily overpowered by the disconnector spring.

Is it just a lucky happenstance of timing he's been able to achieve, or a lower-power disconnector spring or a stronger 22 recoil spring?

ETA: Ah, after viewing, the angle lets it slip past the trip after activation - clever!

I like it...a simple and effective solution. Thank you Kyllian (and Amphibian) for sharing that!

I love this and really hope someone decides to bring these to market.  I would love to have FA .22 lr capability with my RLL.

Very nice! What is the length for the tail that connects to the lightning link?

I'm not the inventor and I don't even know if he is a member here.  I'll ask him to get on this thread or see if I can get the info for you and post back.

Tagged for all technical info.
Maybe we can get someone to MFG these... I have a sheet metal break I can bend on if someone wants to get the flats cut from hardened spring steel.

Bore Buddy contacted me about it but don't know if they are going to pursue it.

I'm actually decent friends with a laser cutting shop if you want to share technical info/dimensions.  I can do all the drawings and DXFs for the laser shop and then bend them in our shop after hours... only cost would be the laser shop, raw material and heat treat.  Prob cost 1hr CNC programming from the shop and then 2 hour setup/cut.  cutting something like this out of 17-4PH (A) would be cheap if they did a hundred or so in one setup... heat treat would be the most expensive thing, but H900 is a pretty inexpensive heat treat, I would think.

I don't even own a RLL...I just hope whoever makes it hooks up the inventor somehow.

By the way, got CCI standard velocity to work again with full mag and drum (45 rounds). The chamber had chipped where the firing pin hits causing drag, just polished it and good to go. Doesn't need the suppressor to work anymore.

Awesome! Thank you very much. You're a genius.

I noticed my cmmg trip is different than yours so I'm going to order a ceiner kit.

I'm in for a couple if this gets made, to help defray costs. The dude should get some kickback for working it out

I’m in as well and want to make sure Kyllian is compensated. I have tinkered with this in past and utterly failed.

The CMMG frame can use the older Ciener-style trip.

Does anyone have a thought as to how thick of metal should be used to make the piece?

Original SWD paddle thicknesses were .032" and .051", which corresponds roughly to 20ga and 16ga sheet stock. Since the piece must slot into the link body just like the paddle does, those would probably make at least good starting points.

Curios - Is there any where that the older style trip can be still be purchased?

Ciener might still be producing them - not sure. Or NOS from Spike's if you can find some.

RLL's a bit of an odd bird in the transferrable MG world, since there's apparently less than 600 of them ever produced and registered on or before 5/19/1986.

Came out about 0.084
14 ga might work if you temper it.

I'd be in for 2@ $40-50 a piece or so! Worth the $ not to have to source material and waste time getting basic function down.

The Ciener Corp. is still in business.  I've bought some stuff from them over the last couple years.  Best to use USPS money order to buy from them.

From what I've read there were 520 RLLs made by SWD.  And at least a few have been irreparably broken or otherwise destroyed.  So the commercial market for any directly related item may be rather limited.

MHO, YMMV, etc.  Be well.

Just ordered my first RLL so this is super interesting to me.

Can anyone clarify what I need to try this out?
I have a cmmg conversion kit. I just need a different trip kit to go with it? And then the paddle?

Anyone else diy a paddle and get it to run?
