I’m looking for a LPVO for my SCAR17.  I’ve heard rumors that the SCAR17 is hard on optics and I want to avoid any potential issues.  The Razor seems to be the go-to but what other brands would hold up.  Looking for a 1-6 or 1-8 with a 30mm tube.

This is not 2004 anymore. Most optics even cheap ones like primary arms proudly advertise their products are scar rated.

I use nightforce optics.

I’m still screwing around with this project, I’m trying not to drop a bunch of money on something I might be unhappy with later.  I do have a spare Aimpoint T2 laying around.  That with a magnifier would work at least for now.  I have no experience with magnifiers, which one would pare up nicely with a T2?

I have a shitty Riton pistol dot on an offset mount. Haven’t killed it yet.

I was already looking at the Vudu 1-10 LE5 and I enjoyed this video and his comparisons.
Comparing 1-10 LPVO Scopes

This video wasn't the deciding factor (I think I already had the scope on order at the time I watched it) but the info seemed sound.

Added plus, with the right mount on an FDE, it totally fits with FN's theme of "20 Shades of FDE"

To be honest...I don't think there is a better setup for the SCAR 17 than a Razor 1-6...

Personally prefer the Elcan 1.5-6x for the higher field of view at 100.

Primary arms states they test all their optics on SCARs, i had a 1-8 SLX? Raptor on mine no problems, now has Exps-3 and G33. Make sure you are buying a SCAR rated mount, my Raptor was in a ADM mount

I started with a TA11 and since moved to a 1-8x NX8, either option is great.

Same combo here, great set up!

I use Viper PST2 variants and a PA 5x the nonmicro one but the SCAR will loosen the battery cap on it.

I’ll mirror what allot of others have said. I have had a Razor 1-6 E in a Geissele and then Badger Ordinance mount. I enjoy the setup quite a bit. I would love to try the ATACR 1-8 but those are pricey.

I settled on using an Aimpoint Comp M4S without any issues.

Previously I had mounted a VCOG 1-8x LPVO and used that without issue, but decided to put that on a different rifle due to the weight. I honestly believe that the biggest advantage of the SCAR 17 system is its light weight. There isn't really any other 7.62x51mm rifle of that weight class and putting a heavy LPVO onto ruins that aspect. This is why I chose to put the much lighter Aimpoint onto for the system to be used as a true battle rifle out to about 400 yards. The 7.62x51mm round in such a light rig is about perfectl for penetrating urban barriers such as concrete walls, disabling vehicle engine blocks, etc. in addition to taking care of a two-legged threat the same as any 5.56mm rifle.

I was going to do an Elcan on mine, but went with the VCOG 1-8.  No doubt it will hold up, but it's not light...then throw a can on the end and that lightweight .308 quickly reminds me I need to get stronger.

Along that same thought process and for the hell of it at the time I threw a Primary Arms SLx 3X Microprism on my 17S to see how it would feel. I gotta say I've been really impressed with it so far, way more than I thought I would.

I have the Primary Arms PLX 1-8 compact scope and it's rock solid. They were tested on SCAR 17's before being released. The glass is just as clear as my Swarovski, Steiner, and Leupold optics at a lesser price.

Years ago I spoke to Trijicon about the “issue”.
They told me it was mainly from people putting the scope to far forward on the top rail. Forward on the rail is not as secure and subject to “flex”.
Keep it towards the stock and you should be ok.

Sure … Elcan has an .5 foot advantage at 6x … but I’ll take that hit so I can have a true 1X vs having to fight a 1.5x mag …

This is true. Further back as possible is best.

Always heard it was recoil impulse due to carrier size.

That makes sense, too.

Razor 1-6 posted spec is 20.5 at 6x vs 22.96 for the Elcan at 6x. A bit more than .5 advantage.

Never had an issue with fast/close up shots utilizing the 1.5 mag over a true 1x. Hell, most people slap a RMR to their LPVO anyway.
