Been using CFE Pistol for all my 9mm reloading, but I’ve recently switched entirely to 147gr Hi-Tek Coates bullets. I prefer the recoil impulse and how quiet it is when shot suppressed. But I don’t have any experience with any other pistol powder. Are there better alternatives in terms of cleaner burning powders? CFE Pistol seems to be rather dirty and I get a lot of gas blowback when fired suppressed.

I want to say VV N320 was developed for suppressed subsonic 9mm something to do with it being cooler burning.

To complicate things I believe the "special K" ammo uses VV N340

vhitavhouri 340

3.7 -3.8 should get it under 950fps and run reliably.

Burns clean.

More expensive than others...but you are using less per round.

I have used in various handguns and with 9mm AR15 carbine with great results.

I use Herco. It's pretty clean.

Another Vihtavuori fan here although there are no published loads for LEAD 147 grain bullets with N320 in the VV data I have from 2009. That said I still load N320 under Hi-Tek coated lead 147's and they sound & function great.

I feel the N340 is way too slow in this application but would load N330 if I couldn't find N320.

Another great single base powder is Solo 1000, hard to tell these from N320 loads when shot next to each other.

I just stick with the basics. 3.6gr titegroup.

I use 3.1 of bullseye to get 968FPS in a G19.

I have never had any issues with fouling.

I would never use TightGroup in a suppressor, the fouling it leaves behind would be very annoying to clean.

Never noticed. I have a Liberty Mystic, maybe the fouling would be more pronounced in a baffle stack type can.

I do not have this issue in my suppressor with 3.4 to 3.6gr Titegroup through a Glock 19

I fought through several powders trying to get good clean 147 sub loads.

I finally found some VV 340 local, rested it and scored 11# for a great deal locally.

I 90% load for my mp5 clones, but also use it in pistols.

I’m using 4.0 over 147 Berry’s.

Mp5 k @10yrds.

2.8Grs-3.0Grs of titegroup with 147Gr LNFP is what I have used. This load was given to me by an accomplished national match competitor and 50yrs of reloading under his belt.

You will not see that low of a charge listed anywhere that I have seen but it works great. I use 3Grs with the 147 Gr plated RN from extreme bullets in my G34. The load barely meets PF for IDPA and brass falls close to your feet. Perfect Game load.

I have shot the same load out of my suppressors and it sounds great. Reliability is about 85% tho. And I have also not noticed any additional fouling.

I use 3.8gr TG with 124gr Percision Delta bullets for subsonic loads. Runs just above minor.

Shot about 6lbs of TG through my SiCo Octane with no 'powder build up issues'

For whatever reason there are a number of internet myths out there about Titegroup.

No can.
Red dot leaves my guns noticeably cleaner than Bullseye or Titegroup, ran it with a 155, took two or three tenths less to make minor, cycled all the way down to 2.4gr with factory springs.

Ran a lot of BE and TG under coated 147s, right around 900fps (3.0/3.2gr) gives pretty good accuracy IME.

I have tried just about all pistol powders for subsonic 9mm and settled on Vihtavuori N320 and N340, and prefer N340 of those two.  I have found them to be the cleanest burning and produce the lowest amount smoke.  I was using Titegroup but found that it burned so hot I was getting erosion on the blast baffle of my suppressors, switched to Vv and that stopped.  I have loaded thousands of rounds of 9mm with 147gr Xtreme plated projectiles, both RN and HP and enjoy the clean burning powder when having to clean a suppressed pistol or PCC after a range session.  I would like to try N330, but haven't seen it available for a long time.

OP, how do they run non-suppressed?

I have a pound of CFE pistol & am going to pick up a 1000cnt box of 147grn Berry's to run sub loads with & load data I found shows it works OK.

I briefly used VV320 and then it became very hard to find.  Been using Titegroup also since around 2004.  I know some guys that load at 4.0 of Titegroup with 147....I know max charge is is 3.6.   I load at 3.7 with no issues.
I used to swear by Berry's plated and ran into several batches that I had accuracy issues with.  Noticed that they were .353 and .354.  They were supposed to be .356 (being that they are plated and it states that on their site).
I switched to jacketed and had no issues since.

Another vote for either Titegroup or N320.

I use both. 320 sounds just ever so much quieter and seems to smoke a bit less than Titegroup.

Depending on use you can download a bit. Pistols seem to require a bit more oomph than rifles and subguns.

I was using Unique and most recently Auto Comp.

If you have an old data book it lists a load for Win 231 and a 147 gr bullet, but it doesn't run a rifle for shit.

I know a it's not listed in manuals anymore, but lots of guys over on the Enos forums appear to be running WST. Anyone here running it behind 147s in a carbine? If so, what data are you using?

Don't quote me on this but I seem to recall someone saying that ramshot silhouette was the same powder as WST or WAP but with a flash retardant added.

Ok looks like it's WAP so no go on the WST

Back around 2001, I used to use 231 and 147 Gr for full auto suppressed SMGs.  That powder is abrasive and eroded the blast baffle of my MK9K to about 3/4".   I was shooting alot back then...not an issue if not suppressed

VV n320 has been the cleanest I’ve tried.

3.5gr with a 147gr bullet gives me 880-900 FPS from a 5’ 1911

That sounds more like your load had alot of unburnt powder more than anything.
