I am on a build where I would like to use a chrome bolt carrier. I will be machining a portion of the carrier and I'm concerned about boundary flaking and/or flaking migration. My preferred carrier profile (round) will see friction at the boundary. My second choice of profiles will not. I intend on treating the machined area with chromate conversion (alodine). I do understand that this can depend on the quality of the chrome plating. I don't want to use a finish like Cerakote. Any experience or advice is appreciated.
