I'm currently using a couple of those wooden dish racks that are pretty cheap to buy to store my pistols, but a few of them are a little wide and it makes it a bit of a pain in the butt to get them in and out So I'm looking for other options that also don't take up a ton of space. Not looking for anything that requires the pistol to be removed vertically as I don't have the real estate above the pistols for that.

Any decent options that don't cost a fortune?
Please don't tell me to buy another safe.

I made a wooden rack to hold my pistols on the top shelf of the safe.  It’s similar to this for sale on Etsy.
They come out the front, not vertically.

Another option is something like this

Similar to the option above but can be custom fitted/expanded.

I use the vinyl coated wire hangars that clip onto a shelf. They hang the handgun by the barrel. They work great and save a ton of space.

Tried a bunch of things. I keep coming back to Armory Racks - compact, various size options available. They also make wall and shelf hangers, but I prefer to just add a shelf to the safe and grab some more racks.

I use a plastic dish rack from IKEA, unfortunately they do not sell them anymore. If you look around you might find a rack with better spacing or is flexible.

Another option is to mount something to the interior door, either a molle panel or simple pegs.

I can fit about 28 handguns touching along a 36" wide shelf.

I just use dishwasher racks from the dump.  Easy to cut to size/shape, rubber coated and free

That's what I use as well. I wanted to use a space that couldn't be used for something else to store handguns.  The shelves are useful for many things, so storing them UNDER the top shelf hanging down works, and they are all immediately accessible as well.

I did also add some of this:

...that I added and cut to give the shelf some rigidity.  It fits perfectly over the shelf clips, and then I set the shelf on top of the two metal beams.  Zero sagging, even with a lot of weight on the shelf.

I prefer the hard sided dividers of this particular rack, but as will all things china options are more limited these days:
