Beautiful rifle! Don't know too much about the 32 Win Special, so I did some Googling. Looks like it performs similar to the 30-30! From comparing loads it seems the 30-30 has a bit more velocity, but the 32 Win Special has a slight edge in energy.

32 SPL ammo and reloading components should be easily obtained. Very nice rifle!

Nice looking rifle, mine is a saddle ring carbine made in 1921.
I've loaded for mine, it's been a while, I was using 170 Gr. Winchester power point bullets. Powders I used are WW 748 and H4895. Always intended to use some Hornandy LEVERution bullets just never got to it.

Nice!
Fun to shoot, ammo is still easy to find, and while pricey compared to stuff like 5.56, it's WORK to shoot a rifle caliber levergun to the point ammo price becomes a concern. |

Speaking of Midway, they also have the 165 gr. Hornady leverevolution ammo and .32 FTX bullets.

@1387Delta, I have a 1894 in .32 Winchester Special made around the same time period. It is a hell of a deer cartridge and I take it to Oklahoma. You did good at that price. Ammo is commercially available so I don't reload it since for the most part it is a woods gun and not a shooter.

Thanks JBT. I haven't shot it yet. I just picked up the only box of ammo that Sportsman's Warehouse had on the shelf. I'm waiting until the temperature drops to around 80 degrees before I start shooting outside. Looking forward to shooting it.

I have two Winchesters in .32 WS, and not a .30-30 in sight.
About the only loading issue is availability of jacketed bullets in anything but 170 grains weight. I haven't looked in a while, so I haven't seen the Hornady bullets mentioned above. I'd rather have a 150 grain bullet in any case. |
