Picked these guys up in the last week...] '97 1894 in .44 Mag and '86 336CS in 30-30. Both appear to appear to be used very little, the 336 appears unfired. It came with a rail, took it off and now I need the top plug screws. The 94 is a lot of fun and a nice shooter, smooth cycling. Havent't shot the 336 yet. Interesting that the 80's Marlins often came in smooth walnut like mine. I really dig these older Marlins, the fit & finish and action just seem top notch. The cross-bolt safety doesn't bother me at all, YMMV.

Nice rifles!  I have a 1894 in .44 magnum, 336 in .35 Remington, and a Golden 39A in my collection.  The 39A is special to me since it was a rifle I longed for in my teens and I was able to find a really nice one a few years ago made the year I was born, 1957.

I bought a pair of new production 336's at Sportsmans Warehouse on Black Friday - one for myself and one as a Christmas gift to my father in law. I was kind of nervous about them with the reported QC problems over the last decade, but the two I bought are nearly pristine. Aside from one minor issue with mine, both have run flawless so far. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Anyway, it is the most FUN gun I have bought in awhile. Makes you feel like that kid on the Christmas Story running the lever. It's awesome

Just bought a J prefix (1952 vintage) 336 from Cabela's for $300.  Good shape, we'll see if it shoots.  Pretty pleased with it, feel like I got a good deal
