As in the title, will a digital print be ok or do I have to get a film photo?

Any photo that meets the size requirements will work.

You can literally print the photo as part of the page if you want. It's neater that way.
Most any PDF editor can do this.

That's what I've done on my Form 4s. (Yeah, I always filled mine out and just had my dealer enter his FFL and sign).

Take a digital "passport photo" on your phone (Yarsa Labs US Passport Photo is excellent on Android), import into the PDF using Adobe PDF Reader, then print the form in color. Take it to the dealer for his part, then mail it with the finger prints.
