I have one of these from Down Range Gear.  It's simple and lightweight.
DRG NVG retention

I wanted another one, so I ordered it and waited 3 months and finally had to request a refund from Paypal.

Does anybody else make one of these?  I don't like the other options like the reel lanyards.

you could probably buy a pistol lanyard for cheap and just shorten it.

I think trex arms makes something similar if that’s the style you’re after.

Wilcox makes a lanyard and if you want a beefier, cheaper, but bigger one NAR sciccors lanyard on amazon for around $20

The Wilcox lanyard is a slick little device.

...but none of these things will really do much more than what a couple loops of 550 cord and an "S"-biner will do.

I've made some loops with steel fishing leader crimped and attached to the shroud.  Super lightweight and strong, but those DRG retainers just look neater and work well.

I've always preferred threaded replacement links. no open hooks, no snag-hazard

its not like you will run around with that cord under tension.

It just meant to keep from losing them if they get knocked off, as soon as they do you will stop and grab them

I'd put my system up agaisnt a Wilcox lanyard anyday. Just curious where do you think it'll fail? Under the heat shrink the shock cord is retained by ss wire twisted around both legs and the ss leader wire is 60lbs test.

I think it looks great.   Probably going to copy it for my setup.

This. But I use the thinner braided military cord.  Can’t remember the name for it.

I'm partial to shock cord, although I have some Wilcox lanyards I use on some helmets.

You can find blackened stainless steel split rings, usually as a piece of fishing hardware; I like to stick them on the NV so they're easier to clip lanyards onto.   They don't rattle with setups that are under tension like the Wilcox lanyard or the scissor leash.

I didn't explain that correctly.  See the strapping and ring attached to the shroud?  That's what I'm looking for.  I can make the shock cord loop myself.

My lanyard is high tech. Piece of gutted paracord (color matched to the helmet for the ultimate in tacticool) tied to the optic and bungee cord on the helmet. Can u say oooooperator?

Your neck costs way more than NVGs. The any retention lanyard should break if subjected to a strong snag force.

I used a maxpedition small gear retractor. It was only like $6 on clearance. Velcro they the vent hole on my helmet and a small S-biner.

I made one out of a tan buckle (I bought at an army surplus store) and some 550 cord.
