I bought a 9ct 601 about a month ago. I went to the range to do the break-in procedure the manual suggest. The damn extractor broke at around 180 rounds. I sent an email to PTR and explained to them what happened with pictures and everything. They answered quick and told me they were going to ship an extractor out to me. This was on a Thursday, I sent an email on a Wednesday asking if they were able to ship the part out. They responded with “I’m sorry, it was hectic at the shop. I’ll send the info to shipping so they can get right on that”. This was last Wednesday, today I received and email at 5:20p, which they close at 5p., that they won’t be shipping the part. As soon as I received it, I called the shop to ask why. To my luck, no answer. So I sent an email asking them why they won’t ship a bean size part that fits in a small 3x4 padded envelop and ship it First Class which should be around $3. I mean come on PTR, where’s the Lifetime Warranty you so proudly state all your guns have.
Sorry for this mess guys. I just need to to let you know and get this shit show off my chest. |
|
This ought to be interesting! After the shit show they started with the locking piece and silencer use and now this, someone is probably pretty pissed in the damage control department.
Tagging for outcome. I’m about 2 hours down the road. I’d be knocking on someone’s door if this was me. |
|
Completely opposite experience I had. I bought one of their 9CT’s that doubled. They sent me a whole new trigger group for free, no questions asked.
|
|
That sucks op, unfortunately it's not the first case I've heard of. I have a friend who got the run arround from them with his PTR91GI and it convinced me that If my PTR needs repairs I'll do it myself and eat the cost.
|
|
I’m probably gonna have to buy the part, which I was gonna do anyways to have as spares but still. You promote “lifetime warranty” then why no warranty. I’m the original owner.
|
|
Like some others have said, I have had nothing but great experience with their customer service.
I own a 9CT and 9KT . The 9CT has been flawless from day one. The 9KT on the other hand is a different story. The whole gun was replaced once and the replacement gun has gone back once for to big of bolt gap and a lot of FTF and FTE after the break in period. Both times they had it less then a week. And when they replaced the gun they added some swag too. |
|
Well just got an email reply from them after I sent one yesterday asking them to explain why they won’t ship the extractor.
“Yes, I am telling you I am not allowed to ship.” And I’m guessing that’s that with them. I do hope if anything where to happen with it I can just buy the parts and fix it because if I get real major encounters with it I’m probably gonna cut it in have and go about my way. So now to order an extractor. |
|
I bet there is some legal contract issue with them sending out parts, even under warranty. They send you to a 3rd party website for parts to purchase.
https://everygunpart.com/oem/ptr-gun-parts.html That being said, they don't have the 9mm extractor listed on the website. I imagine if you sent the gun back they would repair it. I'd be making a phone call ASAP. Brownells has an HK in stock for $60 https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/extractor-parts/extractors/mp5-extractor-mp5-10-40-new-style-prod75951.aspx |

Just got off the phone with a supervisor over at PTR and basically it was “no, nope, sorry. We will not ship the part to you” i guess that’s that with them. Now I got to start finding replacement parts just in case.

I imagine they want to inspect things like the bolt, trunion, etc. If the extractor was hitting something to break it, you're just going to break the German made one as well.
Do a close inspection! Not simply parts swap. |

strike 2...
bolt issues and now this.... Kicker is if they didn't even offer you to ship the weapon back to make it right. The warranty is bs... turned me off for sure purchasing anything from them. They don't take care of the customers unlike other mfg's. Lawyer up... pretty sad from a mfg. |

I’m just gonna bite the bullet and buy the parts myself. I tried emailing, talking to a supervisor and still they don’t want to fix the issue.
Does anybody know of a good bolt? I know my options are (German) an Action 3, an F bolt and an old school gen 1. I see there are US made ones like MAD, RCM and one other I saw and can remember but I really don’t want to go the US route (no offense to any US parts maker on the matter). Only one place has NIW F bolts but DANG!!! $500 for it is way too much, now a used Action 3 is around $200. I know the F is the gen3/recent version, done in the 90s and the action 3 was in the 80s. What I want to base my decision here is, which one is easier to acquire parts for? |

Just to clarify, did you ask them to fix the issue by sending the rifle back? Are they refusing to honor their warranty? I'm not talking about just sending you the part, I mean, they will look at the rifle and fix it. View Quote |

Is this because you are in Puerto Rico and they won't ship it to you? Or do you just have that listed as your location?

Ive had good experience with PTR CS. Have you called and talked to the guy? Im guessing there's more to the story than what is being relayed to you on email. I would be very surprised if they wouldn't take the gun back in and replace the part. But as someone else said, why not just put a german one in there?

Quoted: I do live in Puerto Rico and PR is a US Territory. All gun shops here have an FFL which is only given to gun shops in the US. No passport is needed to travel from the states to PR. Shipping anything USPS to PR cost the same as shipping to anywhere else in the top 50, no international shipping when shipping to PR. Hell you can even ground ship things to and from here to/from the states. ITAR clearly states that you can ship anything gun related to PR because it is a US Territory. I’m telling you it’s just BS on their part because they just don’t know this. I’ve been working in gun shops for over 7+ years and I’ve encountered a few places that don’t want to do business because they don’t know this info in other words they don’t know they can do business with us without filling out any additional paperwork or anything like that. I’ve also had a few that are racist. Yes, I said racist. I called one shop in Alabama a few years ago about a part for a race gun. The secretary was real nice and said yes and all. When she asked for my address and I said PR, she said sorry can’t do. When I asked why she replied with “We are from the clan”. I said “have a nice day” and hung up. I’ve also lost business in selling through Gunbroker because the buyer couldn’t find a shop that would accept the firearm from someone in PR. And now PTR doesn’t want to ship because of ?. No reason other than “you are in PR”. So what does it matter? View Quote Everygunpart.com stocks PTR OEM parts. Im sure you can get an extractor from there. RTG or HKparts are other options. Im sure brownells carries extractors as well but im not positive. Why are you wanting to replace the bolt head? |

Like i said, there are multiple retailers that sell extractors and if its ok to ship to PR im sure they will. I would be annoyed if i was in your situation as well but thats about the best you can do at this point i guess. |

On a side note. I just finished checking the bolt gap just to check and .019 fit fine but .020 went half way. I know it’s supposed to be from .018-.020 but half way in at .020 sure got me questioning.

I would sure like to see a reply from PTR on this issue-must be more to it than we know. Their lack of action on this has disturbed quite a few potential customers it seems

This is unfortunate but the PR location sure seems like a plausible circumstance for the drop in support from PTR.
This thread reminds me I need to get the warranty info filled out and submitted for my PTR-9KT. |
|
My dealings were 180 degrees opposite. I bought a used PTR9CT and discovered that the three-lug mount didn't work with my suppressor. Contacted them and they sent me a shipping tag. Boxed it up, sent it off. In less than two weeks it was back in my hands, all fixed. I was very happy with their CS.
Very curious as to their reason for not repairing yours. |
|
My PTR CS experience has been awesome the two times I've used it....on my latest adventure they even refinished the whole rifle for free (and i didnt ask them to do it).
Turn around time...less than a week. $0 out of my pocket shipping it in. Here is a thing with cloned guns. From my experience the "core" of the setup is good (barrel, receiver, carrier)...anytime I buy a "clone" MP5...the first thing I do is replace the extractor and extractor spring with a HK part...as well as the recoil spring... |

There are 2 sides to every story and I am sure the person here has a legitimate problem. I can say we have been a PTR Rifle vendor for over 18 years and they have been one of the best companies to work with should a customer service issue arise. They ship out thousands of firearms a month and like any manufacture there can be a problem from time to time. We have not encountered Legitimate and real issues that PTR did not address for our customers. The internet has a way of taking ONE problem and making it sound like a 1000.

If you own an mp5 (or clone), you should have a bunch of replacement German extractors and correct gold extractor springs in your spare parts box. Yes it sucks that your PTR extractor broke. I would replace it with a German extractor and move on.
