Looks like it's a Spreewerke P38.  Walther invented the P38, Mauser switched their pistol manufacturing from the Luger to the P38 in around 42-43, and Spreewerke was contracted to make them as well due to the Nazis insatiable need for pistols.  Spreewerkes are probably considered less desirable, since they're pretty rough, but then again, because fewer were made for some they have more interest. I typically use Simpson Ltd as a litmus test for pricing.  Average price is around $950-$1150.

I have one of each.  For some reason my Spreewerke seemed a little more accurate than my Walther or Mauser.

You might get more answers in the Luger/Mauser/P38 subforum

Good info.

Does the holster and mags add much value?

To be honest, I'm not a holster guy, but if the holster is an original and not a reproduction and in good condition it could be valued around $350ish. Here's a list that shows what CYQ (Spreewerke) mag manufacturers and markings  P38 mags. Not unusual at all to have mismatched mags.  At the end of the war, no one was thinking these guns were going to be collectable and it was important to keep the mags with their guns.  As long as they're authentic and period correct (WW2, and not post war) P38 mags are about $75-$150 each.

If you know what the serial number is you can look up it's manufacture date.  Here's some more info about CYQ P38's.  Spreewerke

All things considered, if the gun is in good shape (good bore, all matching numbers, with 1 extra mag, and a good holster) the package is worth around $1,200-$1,500.  This is my amateur opinion based on what I can see in your photos.

Here's a photo of my Spreewerke P38

Agree on the price as long as the locking block is in the white and matches the rest of the pistol.

Another point to consider is that in 5 years time that P38 will appreciate much more in value compared to a newer SIG.

Agreed on the ~1500$ estimate.

I would absolutely do that trade.

Trade the Sig. Having the holster is a big bonus.

All they have done is go up in value. 10 years or so ago a CYQ could be had for 350 bucks. Hard to tell from the pics, but if it has not been messed with and the finish is original and it has a clean bore that makes a big difference. The holster alone is worth at least $300 or more. mags around a hundred bucks or so. so do the math.

I can't ad any more info but i would do the trade. I have a Mauser, Walther, and Spreewerke and the latter is also more accurate than the other two.

He appears to have passed away in Oswego, New York on 19 Oct 1997 (from Ancestry.com).

$800 plus maybe $200 for the holster.

While CYQs arent as cheapbas they used to be, they are the least desired
