I want to treat myself to a nice boom stick for my birthday. I’m looking at either a Knight’s SR-25 or an excellent condition early 1960s Springfield M1 Garand NM with documentation and correct parts.

I have access to 600yd and 1000yd ranges within an hour and reload. These venues have competitions which I’d be interested in eventually. Which would you go with? Price is comparable.

The original goal for this purchase was adding more black to the safe after the last gun control push.

I've got a sweet spot for the M-1 Garand but have never shot a National Match M-1.   If I went SR 25 I'd go 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 and not 7.62X51.   I voted M-1.

I love garands and have 6 I think. One of each manufacturer and some duplicates. To me though you’d be crazy to get one over an sr25. I know I would never use a garand I paid that much for. I’d take it out of the safe to look at and that’s it. An sr25 would get plenty of use because it’s not a collector gun.

Type I or Type II NM Garand? If you want a shooter I would not go with the NM garand. They are more of a collector rifle

Interesting choices, ... but for me it would be the NM M1 without question IF the DCM documentation is valid. There's no 'cool' like Old School cool. .

Besides, 308/7.62 ARs are a dime-a-boring-dozen.

I went SR-15.

With what I’d use an SR-25 for I’m going to wait for a *complete* 6.5CM SR-25.

Initial impression is excellent. Perfect out of the box function. Rail and FH timed perfectly. Nice trigger. Balance is right on front takedown pin with SOPMOD.

Well, I'm sure the OP lifts, because that's some really heavy shit going on right there, ... even before all the obligatory add-ons like fore-grip, laser, light, RDS, mounts for same, et al.

I can't stop thinking about the SR-25. Eugene Stoner. Big fat mags with long OAL. Double ejector bolt. Just another 1K to add to the gun fund...

Truth. Would love to start with 6.5CM, however. I'm sure KAC will be cranking out 6.5CM rifles this summer. It's the new hotness and would boost their sales.

If kac really wanted to make money, theyd change the rollmark on their sr25 6.5cr to sr26. Cali would eat that shit up. literally. Very few 308 pattern KAC lowers in cali.

If an SR-25 is in your budget, I think the answer is always SR-25.

Get a rack grade mixmaster M1 to scratch that itch down the road.
