The new Mossbergs have the retro look of wood. I might have to invest into one of these 590A1's.
I don't care for the heat shield, but I'm sure other variations will be offered other than what I pictured.

Here is an excerpt from the American Rifleman on the Shotgun:
Mossberg takes us back in time with new 12-ga. pump-actions featuring classic dark walnut shoulder stocks and "corncob" style ribbed walnut fore-ends. The Retrograde Persuader (top) is reminiscent of the riot guns used by law enforcement personnel before the advent of hi-impact polymer stocks while the Retrograde 590A1 takes its cues from the trench guns used during World War II. Despite their historical appearance, both models are fully modern firearms that arrive ready to be put to work as defensive tools. We'll also see a 1960s era retro hardwood treatment applied to the popular 590 Shockwave firearm, which will be called the Nightstick. A leather hand strap will replace the nylon strap currently installed on the synthetic stock models.

I really need to stop my visits to ARF... That retrograde is a hard yes.

Looks good, synthetic is tougher. I have to replace a cracked wood stock on an M12 now.

Makes me wonder if they are true thick walled barreled A1's with heat shields and ghost ring sights as the pictures show. The factory heat shield for the A1 has been elusive and never factory supported on the GRS.

If you are schooled in running proper shotgun reloads you know you don't need a heat shield. If you've ever run a bayonet assault course you know why bayonet equipped shotguns do benifit from them in the parry/thrust/slash sense.

I would buy one for sure. Can’t wait to see on in person.

A heat shield comes in handy when hurt and you can't reload optimally, or administratively reloading but you want to keep your eyes out and you don't want to expend any unnecessary energy.

Mossberg does make a heat shield for GRS guns.

The heat shield for the heavy bbl bead sight was only delivered to .mil in limited quantity that I've seen. Finding one complete on the open market is rare. I've never heard of an OEM heavy bbl heat shield specifically made for the GRS. Not saying one doesn't exist but I'd love to know the factory part number.

I like it, but part of me has a habit of putting wood furniture away to protect it/replacing it with polymer when actually being used/abused.

Needs a bayonet lug.  Unless I just missed it as otherwise that looks like my next shotgun.

You want wood that can take some abuse? Ask for laminated wood stocks.

It would be nice to use walnut instead a stained hardwood.
