Finally took the dive.
Unfired, but has typical dings and scratches from safe storage.

Anything in particular I need to know about these?
What 5.56 load do these like? 55gr? 62?
What spare parts should I stock?
Is this a Belgian made gun?
What's everyone using for optics?

Scope goes behind the charging handle cutout. Above the FN.

Lol, that has more screws than a Kel-Tec.

I never scrutinized one until today. For all the screws present, it's a remarkably simple system. Intelligent design though.

I've only ever shot the 17's before, but I can afford to shoot 5.56. hopefully going to the range this weekend.

Must haves:
Geissle Super scar trigger
GG&G canted charging handle
Magpul scar safety selector
Magpul grip of ergo (I have ergo)

Scars have a 1:7 twist. So 62 gr preferably 77gr. 55gr isn’t as accurate (at least in mine)

Clean the piston out every 1,000 rds or so.

Shoot the hell out of it. I have 5,000 through mine and love it. Such an awesome and versatile weapon platform.

I have the factory 10” and obviously the 16” barrel it comes with. Have shot most rounds suppressed throughout an OSS can. Best suppressor host I own for 5.56.

Easy to swap barrels and minimal re-zeroing when changing barrels.

I love being able to put my 10” barrel on, through an Eotech and have it as a SBR, then taking my 16” barrel throwing it on quick and putting an LVPO to have a DMR type set up.

I personally believe if the scar didn’t cost so much it’d be much more widely used than it is now.

Geissle Super scar trigger Definitely looking at this
GG&G canted charging handle and this
Magpul scar safety selector I didn't even know this existed
Magpul grip of ergo (I have ergo) well I make the Ergos, so I'm a little biased. I'm thinking about modifying my favorite Ergo grip pattern to fit

Good to know, most of my guns like 62+. I keep 55gr for plinking ammo and for my FNC

Clean the piston out every 1,000 rds or so.
Any special tricks for that, or is it pretty straight forward?

SBR will eventually happen when the right barrel deal comes my way

I appreciate all the help, btw.
I threw an Eotech EXPS 3 on it for the time being.

I wanted to throw an IR laser and light on it, but rail space is limited and I wasn't digging it all cluttered with laser/light/and TAPS Sync switch.

I put a TA31 on mine and have used an RMR to see how i liked that.
I dont know about cleaning the piston at 1,000 .  definitely not a must do.

I put a aimpoint right in the middle above the mag well and I read something about placing them behind the charging handle? Will my optic get destroyed and are the 16s bad as well?

Not likely.  Aimpoints for one are built like tanks to start.

OP Congrats on the 16 what did you drop to get it if you do not mind sharing?

My recommendation to all new Scar 16 owners is to slap on an optic of your choice and put 1000 rounds through it.

Everyone has personal likes and dislikes about the Scar.  After 1000 rounds the only thing I changed was a larger safety selector

Fortune favored me this week. Just less than $2k. I have several purchase deals fall through this week for other stuff and I was getting bummed, then this fell into my lap.

2K is a smoking price considering where we are in the gun industry at the moment.  I would love to find a black one in that price range.

For whatever it’s worth.....I saw a GG&G charging handle break in the first 10 minutes of a carbine class on a SCAR 16.

Congrats OP....file a form 1 and you’ll never look back

Nice.  I got lucky as well...  on this site.  3 months ago, I picked up a Belgian made SCAR 17S with the KRG ACR stock, GG&G charging handle, the rare 2nd gen HANDL magnesium alloy lower (takes Magpul pmags and is super reliable) and seller included the OEM lower and 2 FN mags...  all for $2470 shipped.

I just happened to be online browsing when he posted it - and wasn't even in the market for a SCAR, but the price was too good, especially with the extras.

If you have the funds...get an Elcan 1/4 for it...

Geissele trigger...

Spare parts for the 16...not much...I would say: firing pin, cam pin, cam pin retainer...minimum...spare recoil spring as well...

Killer price! I would have been super happy to get that deal.

Pics of the 17? How much was it?

I bought an FDE but had to wait a few months for it to show up.

No plan for an optic yet. Need to save some money first. I didn't plan on buying this, but I couldn't pass it up.

Eventually I'm thinking something in the 1-4 or 1-6 range. And something durable enough for the .308

That's cheaper than what I paid in early 2012.

I basically got these for what the guy paid for them years ago. I've known this guy forever and he knew I wanted a Scar. When they were cheaper I couldn't afford them. Now that I can afford them, they are sky high in price. lol

Love the ergo grips.

Black scars are starting to look pretty sweet to me lately. 1 of each caliber and color is the way to go.

So I bought a used PWS SRX Rail Extension (used on the EE). Going to install it tomorrow. Anybody have experience with these? Good? Bad?
I liked the look of them and am a fan of PWS.

Being that the part is used, I noticed some odd wear spots on the yoke that mounts to the barrel, like as if the gas block was rubbing against it. I'll get pics tomorrow when I'm at the shop.
