I thought it was a M16 (rock 'n roll). Get a Troy rear flip or an ARMS 40L SP, and look at the IWAL 2 IR lasers. More pics! |

Thanks for the info. I remember reading about the IWAL that were being sold by Grant, but I don't recall anyone using them, or posting any pictures. I'm just wondering about blooming, and how effective they are. I've got two IR lights (Surefire and Pentagon) and the SF is nice, but I should have gotten the Torch, instead, in hindsight. Does anyone have any actual usage or demonstratible pictures with the IWAL? I'd be real interested, as a IR laser is the next step for this rifle. After rereading and searching about the IWAL, it appears that there's a new version IWAL due out "soon" that has both IR laser and IR light? I don't have experience with weapon IR equipment, and I wonder if the IR light is necessary? If I have the standard IWAL? I've got the SF light I can mount on the rail, if needed for in close areas. I'm interested in night hunting and clearing a building isn't something I'll do with this rifle. Thoughts would be appreciated!!!!

Blooming is a minor problem with the IWAL, and really only significant when used indoors.
It's a very nice, very low profile, rugged, waterproof IR laser. It has held zero perfectly after many many mags of 75 grain BH & Hornady ammo. Whereas adjustable power would be nice, I like the simplicity of this unit, and it's power output is ideal in my opinion. The only thing I'd change is the zero adjusters, I'd coat them black and I believe the manufacturer is going to implement that change. This photo gives you a good idea of how small and low profile it really is, and it's a solid little chunk, not some cheap plastic POS.  |

It's the high LR mount. Edwin, with the set power on the IWAL, what type of useable range do you get. Is it useable for target pointing at 300-400 yards? |

It's a 5mw 835nm IR laser and seems to go on forever, 300-400 yards, no problem. For comparison, the excellent under 1mw IR OTAL is rated to 600 meters, the high power IR laser of the DBAL A2/I (under 35mw) are rated to 2000 meters. Victor and others have a lot more experience with the high powered units than I, but 5mw is plenty for .556 ranges. Using the IWAL 2 and the PVS-14/MUM and a 3X Mil-Spec lens I'm sure you could get hits at 300 with a 50/200 yard zero and accounting for the 8-9" or so ballistic drop. I've only shot out to 100 yards with my IWAL, the LMT MRP 16" SS, Hornady TAP 75gr ammo, weapon mounted PVS-14 and 3.5" groups prone were actually easily repeated. I'm not sure I could do better during the day with the 2 MOA Aimpoint dot. However, with the 3X Aimpoint magnifier during the day I can shoot 2 MOA at 100 yards, so I find the 3X MilSpec lens very interesting and look forward to your experiences with it. With the PVS helmet mounted at targets closer than 100 yards, hitting them from the hip when using the IWAL is just plain easy and great fun. |

Great Pics! By-the-way I like seeing the pictures of the optics mounted on the rifles as well as pictures through the scopes.
It would help the non-educated like myself if the posters would list the model they are showing in their post. Not everyone has and I'm not sure which ones we're looking at sometime. |

Ok, so hopefully this project is getting to the point where it is about done... Reently added a Burris Short Mag 4.5-14x32 scope due to its EXTREME eye relief (so much so that it required a rail extension). With the long eye relief on this scope I can use it with PERFECT comfort during the middle of the day or on the darkest night. This scope has solved my eye relief issue w/ the NVD/Universal Adapter combo. I LOVE IT!!
So this is what I've got on it...RRA 16" carbine w/ midlength gas system and 2 stage trigger C industries magazines First Samco G-27 pistol grip C-More systems free float quad rail handguard Ergo grip rail covers YHM Picatinny bipod adapter Rockmount 9-13" pivot bipod MI Picatinny sling swivel Winchester "the claw" sling ELR 860nm from Night Galaxy Burris Short Mag 4.5-14x32AO YHM 5" rail extension Warne medium matte QD rings Butler Creek Flip Caps MUM Universal Adapter from Vic MUM Possible near future additions include a vortex or phantom flash hider unless i get a can, and hopefully a variable torch soon!! (if only it were an m-16  )

I am pretty sold on the Viking Tactical sling....Been using this sling for quite some time. The new padded version really is a great sling! Hope this helps.

 PVS-7C that had seen better days. Not my personal eqipment, but Uncle Sam's (that's how beat up). That's the port of Brownsville, TX about 30 miles in the distance. This channel was darker than the inside of a coal mine. Are there any thermal sights on the market? Because the AN/PAS-13B (medium) kicks some serious butt! Not that I'd ever be able to afford one though....just curious. |
