Coincidentally it was bright out tonight.

Little video going from dark to NV. Still trying the PVS15's as much as possible to get used to them. Was raining a bit out so I didn't want to walk out from under the roof to get more video.

Looks great. I've never looked through a -15 so very curious how much better the glass is I keep hearing about. What do you think compared to your BNVD?

Its like looking into a 4K TV vs a old Sony Trinitron. A lot more definition and brighter. Has more blooming though with any lighting in the area. These would be for 100% darkness IMO.

Nice. Too bad you'll have to wait a week or so. I was out last night and the moon, oh man, it was damn bright.

Big diff between the two, is the FOM score what they define as product of the two measures?  So the top = 2,513  ( 72 * 34.9 ) against 1,920 ( 64 * 30 )

That's correct, Res * SNR. Actually, I fat fingered it, it's 33.9 on that one, so 2441 FOM for the L3.

I tried color correcting this a bit to be more accurate as to how it looks. It's still more blue than it looks in real life.

Well shit, I got N-Vision to put me on their wait list for a $3,200 zone 3 blemish like you have... After waiting a decade to make the jump into NV. Then, 3 days after making the mental commitment, I absolutely couldn't wait any longer and called TNVC and paid my $4,000.00 to get put on a 2 month wait list for the EXACT SAME TUBE, only without a zone 3 blem.

But your tube is giving me buyers remorse on something that I don't even have yet!

@hkusp9
It depends on what it’s worth to you to have/not have a large blem. Ideally, if you can spring for a non-blem high spec L3 UFWP that’s the way to go and what you did.

I don’t mind the blem but others may hate it. Truthfully, it can definitely pop out at you in certain conditions. There has been a time or two when I looked from a dark scene to bright and for a split second had a “WTF is that!?” moment.

And I don't know what it is, but the image you see is actually better than the pics and vids you pull off the SD Card. Might have something to do with OLED EVF vs the 1280x720p .jpeg captures. And switching to Grey Scale instead of Color also improves what you see.

Just got back from a little stargazing with a local club - my first time looking through decent telescopes before and while the sky was real clear, the bright moon made checking out smaller/dimmer stuff almost impossible. The guys loved that we brought along a few NVGs and I snagged a couple photos through the Photonis Echo with zero magnification - these are just threaded in front of a 24-70 on my DSLR at 24mm, not looking through a telescope or anything.

stitched together 4 shots:

and a shot of the observatory:

Checked one at random and it was ISO400/f13/1.6sec/24mm with the D850. Stretching the shutter a bit longer seemed to clear up the image (reduce noise) and choosing a small aperture reduced the distortion on the ocular -14 lens (gets blurry around the edges with the DSLR versus using the iPhone like I do for action shots).

Interesting - that’s how I shoot 98% of the pictures through my tubes and they’ve always turned out pretty decent. Most of the time I use the 2x lens though, to fill the frame more completely. That definitely increases the resolution versus leaving it at 1x.

Maybe it’s just how I perceived how it looked. It is the first time trying to take pics through a tube, but one pic I didn’t post had an almost “washy/smeary” look to it of a constellation in the sky.

I did zoom in slightly for the last pic which is marginally better.  But I still think the quality of my tubes still aren’t captured by a photograph.

Also, my tubes are definitely more of a blue than a green, although there is a hint of slight green in there.  The phone camera is definitely picking up more green than is actually present. My tubes aren’t quite that aqua in real life.

I ended up getting a universal adapter from PhoneSkope and the appropriate iPhone adapter for my phone to take pictures and video. I also don't use the standard camera app, I downloaded "ProCam" from the app store. I can record in 60fps 4k or take better photos than what the regular camera does. ProCam also changed the tint of the pictures to more of what I was seeing with my eyes than what the regular camera was.

L3 Filmless White Phos PVS-14 from NV Inc. I don't have a camera mount yet which doesn't help and then my iPhone camera really doesn't do it justice. This tube is money. The second pic is a MAWL-C with on the medium/short setting, house is around 20 yards and the white privacy fence is around 60 yards.
