Basement training rig

I don't have many opportunities to shoot in the dark so I bought an airsoft G17 and put my x400v IR on it.

Nice! I do allot of airsoft training in addition as well. It’s nice having my own range as I don’t need permission to shoot at night but using airsoft allows me to practice in areas that would otherwise be somewhat in violation of the 4 rules to gun safety, mainly in and around buildings on my farm.

I deploy, a lot, and since I'm on the other side of the planet, my wife yelling at me is much less scary that usual. And shes usually so happy to see me in one piece, I never get any shit for it once I'm home.

My po' boy setup

Just a standard ACH with a lanyard setup from the EE and backyard painted. I'm still saving for the PVS14 and IR/Laser. I figured at least get the helmet done and then piece the rest of it.

Noob to NV, where do I hook the lanyard to on this once I do get the 14? I'm planning on getting the TNVC adapter and then dovetail mount as well for my Rhino II.

Dropped the Sordin’s and went to comtac iv, so far I am really glad I did and digging the iv’s a ton. Much better cheek position on my stock and no more breaking the seal of the ear pro.

There are wired ear plugs that go in your ears.

They work. Mine are actually a tad too small and I've been meaning to cut them off and switch them to bigger ones. Right now they are doubled up and I can accidentally move them by touching the second tab. Thanks for reminding me!

Yeah they are not highly popular but I think that’s due to the comtac III’s being issued and now trickling down to the civilian level for much cheaper than they use to be. The iv’s seem to be slightly more fragile due to the earplug wires and maybe one of other reasons they are not fielded as much. See them sometimes amongst devgru or SOF but no wide use.

What's the motivation for semi-open + plug like that? Do you get more background sounds? Seems like you'd still get a lot of concussion and blast that would lead to ringing at the least.

I think the main motivation is allowing the ears to breath in hotter weather. The blast is actually not bad, your ear sits somewhat recessed in the u part and blocks some of the direct blast. Becuase there is no bottom to it you don’t get as much interference with the stock of your rifle like you do with a closed ear cup style. If you like doubling up ear protection then these are not going to be it. If you have no problems with normal ear plugs but want Comms in somewhat of a normal headset format then that’s these. Honestly are they worth it... yes and no. If they fit what you need and work then yup worth it. It’s still really hard to beat the durability and versatility of comtac III’s, I just wanted something different and something that my ears are not going to sweat to death in the summer in.

Interesting. I haven't seen those before. I don't think I'm in the target audience for those. I quite like my TCI Liberator IIs. When I'm at a class where I'm going to be firing 1k rounds I can still double up and turn the amplifier up loud enough to hear other people. I already have enough tinnitus to last me a lifetime

Nope, I just use it as ballast at this point. I have 4 AA sized tungsten rods in place of batteries to give me a good balance. Tungsten is almost twice the density of lead.

finally had time to mount my TCI's to my helmet with thanks to Unity Tactical and I have a REMORA from Optics Planet coming sometime soon.  Noise Fighters are awesome!

and by luck, the TCI's I bought came with a Kenwood/Baofeng PTT.  so, now I have comms.  I have no excuse but to pass my Ham test in Nov.  i think i'll have to change out the flag patches on the TCI's.... sooo many flags!

IV's are the best.

One thing you don't have to worry about is pushing the ARC adapters in - I just slide my helmet on and my ears just slide right into the slot. Stick the plugs in and I'm good to go. Also I use Comply foam tips on all my IV's which in theory (don't follow this as advice!!!) should offer higher NRR.

Agreed about not breaking the seal due to the stock as well.
