Less expensive than the PSQ36 FGS and pivoting tubes vs the ANVIS style FGS.

Is the thermal sensor a 320 or 640?

This is what I can find.

• Thermal sensor diagonal FOV greater than or equal to 34°.
• Thermal sensor frame rate greater than or equal to 60.0 Hz.
• Integrated full color microdisplay with active format greater than or equal to 1280x960.

That is bad ass.

They did mention the thermal was clip on, where as that L3 one has it built in

ETA, If true that is $23k a pop that is a serious deal considering everything you're getting.

Not that I have any direct experience with the PSQ-36 but based on what I read about the system it seemed flawed to me. The thermal was tied to the NV channel, meaning you had to run the NV to run the thermal. Now with the PSQ-20 it had a separate thermal channel, meaning you could use the thermal in a stand alone mode thus you could use it during the day or during that twilight period where you could not use NV. The other thing that seemed stupid about the PSQ-36 was that the unit was fixed, meaning you could not rotate the modules separately.

Now based on what I read this new ENVG does the smart thing in carrying over the separate thermal channel and incorporates the ability to rotate each NV module.  The thing I did not like about the PSQ-20 was that it used a dedicated mount with power supply, and based on the picture of this new ENVG they are going the same route.

If I recall correctly it was one of the guys from at TNVC that said the military liked the 15's (Bino's) with the COTI as an add on so if something broke the entire system was not wasted. No idea if the military really cares about having the separate thermal channel. Now I cannot compare what I use NV/Thermal for with what the military uses it for, but based on my experience the separate thermal channel of the PSQ-20 is an incredibly handy feature to have.

Sorry as this string probably should have been a separate topic as this is a pic thread.

I think that's what the cost came out to be for the military contract on a per-item basis. I would expect the retail cost to be a little higher, but probably not significantly so.

If you could get these for ~25 I’d probably buy a pair.. i’ve invested more than that over the years into separate thermal and NVG gear

Got around to finally pulling my sordins apart to mount the unity MARK, kind of digging it.

Ops core shipped my maritime skeleton arc rails today so I’m going to finally chop it and modify the cover I have coming to fit.

Also waiting on my RNVG’s... lots of good stuff coming, love my expensive toys!

That's awesome!  You know we're friends, right? Right??

I've been playing around with the idea of picking up another PVS-14 and having duals that way, then eventually doing the MOD-3 upgrade.  Still not entirely sure what my long term plan is but I'm starting to get back into tinkering with night vision again.

Well, it would be awesome to have a local buddy who likes to play with NVGs. One buddy moved away @redneckarmy34 and the other one @The_beer_slayer never accepts my range invitations.

So, I wrestled with the bridged 14s, and decided on binos because I knew I'd want them eventually anyway, so I'll reserve my 14s for a loaner and get what I'll end up buying anyway.

It’s made by a company called UR-Tactical. They are out of China but put out pretty good quality stuff that is not copy’s for the most part. It’s for the ballistic helmet so you would have to go one size smaller. They only make a m/l and l/xl so if you have a M/L bump like my carbon is it will be a tiny bit lose as you can see in the picture but not that bad actually. It will fit the bump as said but for best fit order one size smaller.

Thanks to brodband8 for giving me the little bit of extra courage to cut on a $600 helmet.

My ops core Skelton maritime rails came in today. Got the carbon all cut and edges sealed.

I modified the cover and pretty much pull the entire cover apart to mod it to fit the maritime. I also wish I had the right color loop on hand and will change it out later on. Not that the color matters as my manta covers the little patch completely.

More to follow... got to get my sordins on, secure the manta, and build a external battery pouch tomorrow. Will hopefully have it back up and running tomorrow.

I’m really digging the skeleton rails with ability to put zip ties through he arc rails.

Switched to a maritime. Now it's a lot better with Peltors flipped down for me personally.

Parts:

- Sentinels by Nightlong Industries
- Ops Core Maritime
- Custom Counterweight/battery holster
- S&S Manta
- Peltor Comtacs
- Wilcox GSGM
View Quote
Do you like the Wilcox mount? Because I have the exact same setup for my sents, and I personally friggin' hate it. I'd much rather run the 15's with the g24 any night of the week. Unless, of course, I needed something that would last a few days without running out of battery, but I can't think of any situations where an external battery pack is really a necessity for me, considering I can just reach into my bag and pull out another AA battery if the 15's die on me. The paper/steel targets never seem to mind.

I don't really care for either or setup.

I am going to grab one of those low profile mounts made for the Aussie's GSGMs to bring the sentinels back closer to my eyes.

I really liked having my PVS-15 really close to my eyes with the eye cups occluding peripheral vision. Until I used them while running and they fogged up almost immediately. Wiping off the close lenses while they're mounted to a helmet isn't easy or particularly effective.

I used these in the picture below, mostly what was suggest to me. The real thin fine cutoff disks that don’t have the fiber in them. I cut just short of my marks and used a 120g sanding drum to finish it to the marks. Little bit of superfine wet type sand paper by hand to make the edges perfect. I got a little lazy on sealing, I thought I had poly resin around but must of ran out of it. I used gel superglue and a little air cure cerakote on the edges. If it wears through the super glue I’ll just lightly sand and add resin or even epoxy down the road. The edges I did with tape to make the line perfect, that way if I messed it up or wanted it tighter I could just take the tape off and start again. Afterwords I maked the edge of the tape with a very fine point sharpie, removed the tape and went to town. I just went slow to get it as perfect as I could.

You bet! Its worth it I think already and worth it to get it done before the on set it all up. It was about an hour project for just the shell mods, the cover stuff is a different story.

You think it would be better to get a cover that's meant for the FAST then? Been looking at First Spear, Perroz, and the Wendy LTP.

Edit: shooting you a PM as well.

What’s the best bargain ear pro to use on a helmet?  I have an old pair of Howard Leight impact sports, and some TW Peltor adapters on the way, but I’m wondering if I should spring for a $100 pair of Peltor sport Tacticals instead of trying to make the HL IS work.

Not interested in spending more than approx $100...

Peltor tactical pros sell used on eBay regularly for $50-$60

ETA:  Peltor tactical pros on a helmet.  Not as nice as comtacs but easier to use with consumer grade 2 way radios.
