New to NV, if I mount the DBAL either on the top rail center, behind the front sight or left side rail, is there anyway to get that laser close before going to sight it in?

Go outside at night.
Point IR laser on something far away.
Look through optic
Move laser point to optic POA**

**You'll need to decide on converging zero or parallel**

Done.

I point at something 200 yards away which is what I'm zeroed for anyways.

Just curious how off is ur covergance zero at 50, 100, 150?
I am trying to decide on convergence or parallel for my d2 myself

I chose parallel myself, so that I would only need to worry about elevation adjustments. Took it to a few night shoots with shooting out to 200 yards and was still getting hits on man sized steel.

It’s personal preference based on the distance you’re able to shoot.

Personally I do a converging zero. I point my optic at a tree as far as I can from my garage (about 200 yards) and king my laser up with the optic.

Basically your point of aim vs point of impact will be at most the distance from your laser to barrel. Normally around 1.5”-2.5” unless you’re using some type of riser.
That’s the furthest off you would be at point blank range. The further out you shoot it will converge closer making you more accurate out to the point of convergence.

If you were using a clip on and shooting 400+ yards then there are benefits of going with a parallel zero since at greater distance you have more issues with windage and elevation.
