Scavenged ~200 mostly Lake City once-fired but a few mixed head-stamps got gathered-up as well.

While sorting the brass after tumbling I came across about a dozen Remington 223 cases looking like this:

Forgive the photo quality, not a photographer. But notice how for down the shoulder is and how extended the neck is, just wondering what this is?

Edit to add images, not all that image adding savy

Lets see if these are visable?

Did you verify they are stamped .223? Look almost like .222 cases to me.

Here's the head-stamp:

About a dozen appear to have come out the same chamber.

Just wondering the how/what/why??

IDK. Maybe a .222 shooter resized some .223 brass? Certainly easier/cheaper to find.

That head stamp clearly says 222 REM.

Ahh, 223 formed to 222.

Thanks, and that's quite the crimp on the right.

Pics aren't working for me, and both imgur links are the same.  Going by the picture in the link you picked up some 222 brass.  Here's that picture in the linkAttachment Attached File

Had to put my glasses on.

Yup, 222; never encountered any in the field.

Thanks again guys.

I think Colt maybe other mfg'rs sold AR-15's to Mexico for civilians since civvies aren't supposed to own military calibers.

When I enlarged the pic, I could see it too.

I'm usually very reluctant to take any range pick up brass because I don't know it's history, and it isn't worth screwing up a firearm over someone else's used brass.

LOL, glasses things happens to me a lot.  If I don't have glasses handy at the range, I take a pic with my phone and blow it up.  It is the only way I can check primers for pressure signs.

.222 shooters are pretty tight with their brass.  I have never picked up a single one at the range in many years. I shot a friend's old Husqvarna in .222 and it was a one hole shooter.

Yes we are. But I’ve found it a few times where they actually put the brass back in the factory box and left it in the can. Until I built up a supply of. 222 Rem brass I sacrificed 223’s.
