Here's an odd one I've had for a long while now.

Remains of the M34 liner inside.

No idea.  But the price was right so I could not pass it up.

I read somewhere it could have been a "referee" for field training exercises.

Nice! I'm going to have to get with you in a couple months because I have some stuff to put up there as well that I am slowly finding as I unpack. I have some stuff from Majors Field, and from a local guy who was a B17 pilot in the 306th and some other odds and ends.

Some more pics since I have no football to watch today.

Here is a camouflaged M35 German helmet that unfortunately someone dug the adler out of the concrete.

Here is an M42 I bought on ebay.  It was spray painted gloss black.  But under the spray paint was a nice Luftwaffe eagle and blue-gray paint.

A US M1938 tanker helmet from the hoard of mint helmets they found in Greece in the mid 90's.  The Polaroid goggles I've had since I was in high school.

Here is an nice Vietnam MP helmet I found last year at, of all places, Omaha's Surplus store in Fort Worth.  It was in the bargain box of Belgian M1 clones for $10.  It had been painted over as well.  But I saw the green chinstrap hardware and and it got me looking.  I then saw what was under the repaint.

Some more modern goodness  When we started to withdraw from Afghanistan a lot of in country helmets came up for sale which is where most of my worn, down and dirty ACH/MICHs came from.  They are much harder to find now.

Some 4th Infantry.  Just a note the 4th ID only puts their patch on one side of the helmet.

Another style of USMC LWH.  This one has the early mesh liner while the one I showed with "Murphy" has the later pads.

An interesting early 1960's airborne helmet.  This one has the clip on style airborne straps on a late WWII shell.

The liner is the 1955 style with solid OD webbing and no eyelet on the front.  It also started life as a rigger modified airborne liner.

But in 1962 Firestone took a bunch of their rigger modified liners and converted them to the WWII style "factory" made style airborne liner by putting the legs of the A frame under the liner.  They then filled in the old holes with gray epoxy.  No idea why they did this but it's a neat variation.

Neat thread!

I just went to the KAF Bazaar today, and talked with one of the vendors, who has a line on old Afghan national Army helmets an such from Kandahar City.

He's got a German M1916 shell with no liner and some damage, and British "Brodie" with a thick coating of black paint, also no liner, and some old Russian pilots helmets stashed at his shop in the city.

I'm trying to get him to bring some of that stuff next week.

Will need pics of any markings to tell exactly what you have.

The stahlhelm looking one is a Spanish Modelo Z, they’re pretty poorly made and not valuable.

British or Canadian shell.  Would be WWII era due to the lip and riveted strap loops.

US WWII helmet and a nice one at that with the OD7 straps and nice corking finish.  The liner is Vietnam era.

As already stated a Spanish helmet which while not worth as much as a German shell is starting to become collectible on their own.  Just find the emblem that goes on the front.

The PASGT is nice as well.  I love the cover with the V sewn to it.  So much harder to find the early woodland covers with patches and such on them as it was very uncommon.

I got pointed here by the other GD thread and figure I'd contribute my family heirloom.

Great uncle in WWII as a combat engineer, brought this back and gave it to my grandfather and later gave it to me in the 70s.  I played in it a lot as young boy when we played war.  If I had known what I had back then, I would have mothballed it earlier.

This was WW2 bring back, brought home by my grandfather, he was an assistant gunner on an M1919 crew, 86th Infantry Division, “Blackhawks”. If you look closely at the third pic, you can see the original owners name “Hoffmann” written on the liner.

Interesting helmet I picked up at a museum open house at Camp Mabry a few years back.  Was painted a funky green.  I stripped off the funky green and this was under it.  Just wish I could find out what the yellow square meant.
