I’m thinking about getting a Marlin 336 in 30-30 which I would want to thread to use a can on.

Does anyone know if any of the models have a thick enough barrel to thread 5/8x24? I have a Griffin Armament Recce 7 and they only sell 30 cal taper mount muzzle devices in 5/8x24.

If not, what are my options?

Thanks guys.

Probably not unless you plan to build a SBR.  The standard Marlin profile is thin and you would have to cut it back to where it tapers to get adequate thickness.  At the legal 16" length you'll only have about .650" but you need around .725" OD for 5/8-24 threads.  The easiest option is to use 1/2-28 threads with a 1/2-28 female to 5/8-24 male adaptor.

When I first bought my 336Y, I took it down to the Vegas store for Wild West Guns.  They said it could be turned for 5/8-24.  Price to do the work was more than the gun, so I passed, but apparently it can be done.

I bet Class III could do an adapter, may be your best bet.

Class 3 machining cut and threaded one for me at 14.5 ". There wasn't enough barrel to thread it 5/8ths and it had to be threaded 1/2. I would shoot Morgan a message and see what he can do for you.

I did a couple of lever guns last week at the shop.  I thread them to .500-28 then screw on a collar, then thread that to .625-24.  Shorten the feed tube to clear everything.  Problem is with the bigger threads, you may not be able to easily slide the tube out for cleaning.  A shorter tube will help with that.

Your gun can be threaded but it's not a simple process.
